Evan Rachel Wood, the Hollywood actress, has alleged that she was abused by musician Marilyn Manson.
The two were in a relationship from 2007 until 2010, including becoming engaged.
Manson’s real name is Brian Warner.
In a statement to Vanity Fair, Wood said: "The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson. He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years.
"I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail.
"I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
In 2019 Wood gave evidence to the California Senate in relation to a piece of legislation on domestic violence.
At the time she did not name Manson, 52, but said she had been abused by someone who "had bouts of extreme jealousy, which would often result in him wrecking our home, cornering me in a room, and threatening me."
In an interview in 2009 Manson said of Wood: "I have fantasies every day about smashing her skull in with a sledgehammer.”
There was no immediate comment from Manson’s representatives but they have categorically denied similar allegations in the past.
They have previously said the 2009 interview was a "theatrical rock star interview promoting a new record, and not a factual account".
In a statement last year a representative said: "There are also numerous articles over multiple years where Evan Rachel Wood speaks very positively about her relationship with Manson."
