Labour and the Liberal Democrats have hinted they might form a coalition after Thursday's local election results showed parliament would be out of business.
Wes Streeting, shadow health secretary, said that Labor «does not support» the idea of such an agreement, but has repeatedly refused to rule it out.
He said that Sir Keir Starmer was confident that he would get an absolute majority, but admitted that the party could not afford to perceive the result for granted.
Sir Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, said there was no way he would work. with the Tories, but did not make the same commitment to Labour.
Their remarks came after polling expert Professor Sir John Curtis predicted that Britain could move towards a hung parliament.
>He said that the results of the local elections showed that Labor would not have had 14 majority seats, which means that they would need the support of other parties.
The Liberal Democrats are looking to secure more than 20 Tory seats after making big gains behind the Blue Wall in the south of England.
Mr Streeting told the BBC: «I know the Conservative Party would like so we can talk about whether there will be a coalition after the next general election.
“We think we can get a majority. This is what we are working on, this is what we are fighting for.”

When asked if he could rule out a pact with the Liberal Democrats, he replied: «We're just not at the level to talk about coalition governments.»
«I think people can go to the polls with confidence. in the next general election, knowing that a Labor government is possible and within our reach.”

Sir Ed, who was caught talking to Sir Keir at the coronation service, said his party is focused on «getting rid of the Conservative MPs.»
«This is a hypothetical question because we don't know what will happen after the next election,» he told the BBC when asked about a coalition with Labor.
«What I want to do is get a lot of seats — mostly from conservatives and some from the SNP. Then you'll have plenty of Liberal Democrat MPs capable of pushing Liberal Democrat politics regardless of the combination of the next parliament.»
The pair's remarks were taken up by Conservative MPs, who said the parties were preparing for an electoral deal.< /p>
