Rishi Sunak faces growing backlash after 1,000 Conservative councilors were on track to lose their seats as he failed in Friday's local elections.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the result was «disappointing» but said he did not believe there had been a «massive upsurge in movement towards the Labor Party».

While Sir Keir Starmer said the results were «fantastic» his parties showed that Labor was on track to win the next general election, some pollsters said that Sir Keir did not do enough to be sure of a complete victory.

Meanwhile, Sir Ed Davy, leader of the Liberal Democrats, has refused to rule out joining the Labor coalition if there is a hung parliament.

As of 2:30 am on Saturday, the Conservatives have lost 960 councilors and lost control of 48 councils . , while Labor won 635 seats and received 22 councils. The Liberal Democrats received 12 councilors and 416 councilors.

With all but two seats declared, the Conservatives were on a total of 2,287 councilors and 33 councils, while Labor was on 2,652 councilors and 71 councils, and the Liberal Democrats — 1615 councilors and 29 councils.

On Friday, in what the Liberal Democrats called the «Portillo moment» in the election, the party took control of Michael Gove's local council in Surrey Heath.

Sir Ed's party hopes to win some Blue Wall seats from Tory Heartlands in the next election. Other prominent Conservatives who won seats in Surrey include Jeremy Hunt and Dominic Raab.

A party source said: «The Liberal Democrats have made great strides in Michael Gove's backyard in Surrey Heath, taking control of the Conservatives. .

“This is Michael Portillo's moment in this local election. Senior Conservative ministers are now glancing nervously at the Liberal Democrats.»

Also on Friday, Labor overtook the Conservatives to become the largest party in local government.

They now have more seats than the Tories all over England. This not only demonstrates the strength of the party across the country, but also means that they will take control of the Local Government Association.

Labor wrested seats from the Tories in the Red Wall in the north of England, and the Liberal Democrats took the seats in the Blue Wall south.

The Tories have ceded the Medway to Labor, who will lead the Kent council for the first time since 1998, and the outgoing Conservative council leader told No. 10 to «come together» on multiple fronts.

They lost Stratford. -on-Avon, residence of Nadhim Zahavi, former chancellor.

Also going will be Hertsmere, borough of Oliver Dowden, Deputy Prime Minister, and Welwyn Hatfield, borough of Grant Shapps, Minister of Energy.

Welcoming the results, Sir Keir said Labor had «blasted the doors» in places like the Medway, adding: «Make no mistake, we are on our way to a Labor majority in the next general election.»

Mr. Sunak is facing mounting backlash after preemptively blaming losses on the «box set drama» that has engulfed the Conservatives during his premiership. Boris Johnson and Liz Truss instead of tackling the party's current problems.

Responding to the results yesterday morning, Mr. Sunak said: «It's always a shame to lose hard-working Conservative advisers.

» I don't see any grassroots movement towards the Labor Party or enthusiasm for their agenda. People want us to focus on their priorities.”

Hugh Merriman, transport secretary, said voters were complaining to him about «old news about former prime ministers».

Asked if the poor results were the fault of Mr Johnson and Ms Truss, Ms Mr. Merriman said: “Of course, on the doorstep I got feedback that we are in a better position. This is also shown by polls. People are more positive about Rishi Sunak.”

But one conservative source said, “Sunak can't blame last year's chaos for these results. He started the chaos by stabbing the most successful Tory election winner in 50 years.

“Sunak's claim that stability has been restored has been blown to smithereens. These results could be disastrous for the party and worse than before the change of leader.»

Others demanded that he change his policy if he had a chance of winning the next election.

Sir John Redwood, a former Cabinet minister, called for an emergency budget. He told The Telegraph that frustrated
Conservative voters «just don't think we care about them.»

"Endless tax attacks, from car taxes to fuel VAT and hidden taxes on income, are highly unpopular. People are very unhappy with the lack of progress – in growth, inflation, taxes and migration.” Sir Christopher Chope, MP for Christchurch since 1997, added: &# 34. I think we cannot continue like this. We need to change direction and make people clear what we stand for.” Another Conservative MP called on Mr. Sunak to go beyond «managerial competence.» to state his vision, while a fourth added: «If you do worse than your maximum loss forecast, something has gone wrong.»

Tory Chairman Greg Hands emailed Tory members on Friday that it was a «massive wake-up call», and encouraged them to donate money to the party.

But Sir John Curtis, a polling expert, said the results were «definitely bad news for the Conservatives» and Labor had to «share the booty with other opposition parties.»

He said: «The catch is that if you look at Labor's voting share, where we have detailed constituency results, and compare it to what happened 12 months ago, there's basically no change.»

He added that while the results showed that Labor was on track to become the largest party, it was «still unclear» whether they could win an outright majority.

Michael Thrasher, Professor of Politics at Plymouth University said the results of the local elections suggested that Labor would not win an absolute majority next year.

He said: «The final share is predicted to be between 28 and 30 percent for Conservatives and between 36 and 38 percent for Labor.» their seats in the last general election suggest that the Labor Party is on track to become the largest party in the next election, but may not win an outright majority.”

'Pioneering Night&#39 ;

While Labor Opens He said the party had a big gap with the Tories and the party should also demonstrate that «it's not just the Conservatives who are retreating, it's us who are moving forward.»

A Sky News forecast showed that if everyone in Britain votes in line with Thursday's polls, Labor will fall short of a majority with fewer than 300 seats, while the Tories will suffer their biggest defeat since. 2005

In addition to losing six councils to Labor, the Tories also lost five councils, including Windsor and Maidenhead, to the Liberal Democrats.

A number of councils that have fallen out of Conservative control, including Tamworth, Brentwood, East Hertfordshire, North West Leicestershire, South Gloucestershire, South Kesteven and East Lindsey.

Sir Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats , meanwhile, said his band had a «ground-breaking night.»

«We exceeded all expectations,» he said. «We dealt a crushing blow to the Conservative Party at the Blue Wall ahead of next year's general election.»

Asked by Sky News about the possibility of a coalition, he said: «I'm focused on beating these Conservative MPs and SNP MPs in Scotland where I think the Liberal Democrats have a really good chance and I'm increasingly confident in our ability to defeat Conservative MPs in the next general election.”

Stephen Flynn, leader of the SNP in Westminster, urged Scots to vote for his party in the next election so they can 'pull the strings' of the minority Government , led by Labor.

The election was the first election under new rules requiring voters to carry a photo ID, but some people were denied access to the polls.

Representative Electoral Commission said: «We already know from our research that the ID requirement was a big problem for some groups in society and that, as a result, some people were unfortunately unable to vote.

«It is important to understand the extent of this impact and its causes before a final opinion can be formed on how the policy has worked in practice and what can be learned for future elections.”
