The concept's sophisticated hybrid powertrain is unlikely to end up in a production sports car, but let's hope the spectacular retro design goes into production with minimal changes.
Hyundai first revealed the N Vision 74 concept last July, and it has since garnered several prestigious design awards and rave reviews. Hyundai N Vision 74 was presented as a «lab on wheels» with a design inspired by the 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe concept by the famous Italian maestro Giorgetto Giugiaro.

On the possibility of a production model based on the N Vision 74 concept, Hyundai representatives had previously spoken vaguely, but with confidence, and yesterday the South Korean edition of Money Today reported, citing insiders, that the decision on the production sports car had been made — according to sources, it will be called Pony Coupe , and will be officially unveiled on May 27 this year as part of a special Pony Day event.

Money Today sources claim that Fabrizio Giugiaro, the son of Giorgetto Giugiaro, worked on the appearance of the serial Pony Coupe. Recall that now father and son Giugiaro run their own studio GFG Style, which they founded in 2015 after parting with Italdesign. GFG Style was brought in last year to restore the 1974 Pony Coupe Concept, making it seem fitting to partner with Hyundai to develop a modern production version of the sports car.

Hyundai has been successfully flirting with retro design a lot lately: after one-time electric mods based on serial classic Hyundai Pony and Hyundai Grandeur, the company introduced a new generation serial Grandeur sedan with retro elements in exterior and interior design — in South Korea it instantly became a hit. There are also retro motifs in the design of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 serial electric cross-hatchback, which won the World Car Of The Year title last year. The production Pony Coupe is likely to be equally warmly received by the public.

So far, unfortunately, there is no information about the technical stuffing of the serial Pony Coupe. The N Vision 74 concept has a rather complex electric power plant with a combined power supply: it is rear-wheel drive, each of the rear wheels rotates its own electric motor, their maximum combined output is more than 500 kW (680 hp) and 900 Nm. The capacity of the 800-volt battery is 62.4 kW, and additional range is provided by a front-mounted hydrogen electrochemical generator with a peak power of 95 kW (129 hp). Two carbon-fiber hydrogen cylinders are placed transversely above the rear axle and electric motors, they contain a total of 4.2 kg of gas. The power reserve of Hyundai N Vision 74 on one charge/refueling exceeds 600 km. The concept accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4 seconds, with a top speed of over 250 km/h.

Hyundai is one of the world leaders in the development of hydrogen cars, but we believe that the production Pony Coupe will be a traditional battery-powered electric vehicle and will most likely be based on the well-known E-GMP platform, and the return will be at the level Kia EV6 GT and the yet to be unveiled Hyundai Ioniq 5 N (premiering in July), so you can expect about 600 hp
