The other day, fresh spy photos of a restyled hatchback were published on the Web, thanks to which it became clear that the German company decided to fix the most controversial detail of the exterior of the car.
The history of Volkswagen's most successful model began in 1974, when the production of the first generation started. Today, the assembly line is already the eighth generation of Golf, the presentation of which took place in October 2019. The time is right for a planned restyling, and the first test samples are already caught in the lens of photo spies. There is practically no disguise on them, so we have the opportunity to assess the nature of the changes in the restyled version.

The most controversial element of the eighth Golf can be considered its front optics, which received the most complex form in the entire history of the model. Judging by the photos of the test samples of the updated version, new headlights will appear at the front, which will become noticeably narrower, and their curves on the inside will be masked by a wider plastic horizontal insert passing through the emblem. The front bumper is also new, it will receive a slightly less wide trapezoidal air intake. There will be no significant changes on the side, and lights with a completely new LED filling will appear at the back. In addition, the rear bumper will be slightly tweaked at its bottom.

Judging by the spy photos, the Golf's interior will noticeably change due to the large screen of the multimedia system, and traditional buttons can return to the steering wheel instead of the touch buttons that complete the current Golf. No significant changes are expected in technology: the eighth generation Golf is built on a modified MQB platform and is equipped with a wide range of gasoline and diesel engines, as well as hybrid modifications. The base is a gasoline 3-cylinder 1.0 TSI with a power of 90 or 110 hp. The most powerful Golf has an R prefix and is offered with a 2.0-liter turbo engine, in top versions its output is 333 hp. and 420 Nm of torque (for example, like the recently presented Golf R 333 Limited Edition). It is equipped with all-wheel drive and a 7-speed «robot» DSG.

By the way, at the end of last year, the Volkswagen Golf took only the fifth place in the list of the best-selling cars in Europe after many years of dominance, passing ahead of Peugeot 208, Dacia Sandero, Volkswagen T-Roc and Fiat/Abarth 500.
Recall that last month the official premiere of the updated Volkswagen Touareg took place.
