The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation announced that ABS of the Russian assembly will appear in July

The relevant department said that the production of anti-lock braking systems in the Russian Federation will be launched in Kostroma.

Due to the refusal of many foreign companies to continue doing business in the country, the Russian auto industry faced serious problems last year. Many local factories were sent to idle time, since they could not produce cars that met the requirements at that time. As a result, legislators decided to soften these requirements (this happened in May), after which the so-called “simplified” cars began to roll off the assembly lines of Russian enterprises.

The Government of the Russian Federation at the beginning of this month decided to gradually return to operation the “pre-crisis” version of the technical regulations in the automotive industry. It is assumed that all norms will return to the previous version of the document before February 1, 2024. Recall that one of the requirements for the production of cars, which the authorities put on pause, was the presence of an anti-lock braking system (ABS).

The presence of ABS for cars manufactured in the Russian Federation will again become mandatory from December 1 this year. According to RIA Novosti, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Vasily Shpak said that the production of anti-lock braking systems will begin in the near future at the production site in Kostroma (the exact start date has not yet been announced). The representative of the department also announced that Russian automakers will receive the first deliveries of serial ABS on July 1.

According to Vasily Shpak, the production of electronic control units, harness products, as well as some of the sensors for the needs of the local automotive industry has already been established in the Russian Federation. The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade added that there are plans to further increase the share of domestic electronic components for the Russian automotive industry.

Recall that the initially “simplified” cars, in addition to ABS, were also deprived of airbags, the ESP electronic stabilization system, front seat belt pretensioners, a full-fledged ERA-GLONASS emergency response system module, an immobilizer, and a gearshift prompt in the on-board computer. Another easing of the norms canceled the requirements for the toxicity of car exhausts: for most categories of vehicles, the Euro-0 environmental class became acceptable (instead of the previously valid Euro-5).

It is worth noting that the new requirements for the production of cars in the Russian Federation have become acceptable for manufacturers, not mandatory. So those companies that could produce cars that meet “pre-crisis” standards could well maintain the quality of their products.

By the way, the best-selling car in the country today – Lada Granta – returned to airbags at the end of August last year. The production of sedans and liftbacks has been established at the Togliatti plant of the AVTOVAZ company. It should be noted that today the price of Lada Granta Drive Active in the liftback body became known (previously only a “heated” sedan was present on the market): the recommended retail price is 980,900 rubles.
