Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is running against Trump for the party's 2024 White House nomination, said the allegations pose «a deadly threat to a free society.» when he accused Democrats of being the «weapon» of the justice system.

“It is shameless for the President to bring charges against a leading candidate opposed to him,” Mr. McCarthy tweeted, adding that Mr. Biden “had kept secret documents for decades.”

Donald Trump Jr, son of the former president, said that the accusations represent «revenge» on the part of the «deep state».
He tweeted that the so-called Deep State is «ready to engage in historic election meddling and will burn our norms and Constitution to shreds.» try to prevent Trump from becoming president again.

Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley tweeted, «If people in power can jail their political opponents at will, we don't have a republic.»
Elon Musk, head of Twitter, said: “There seems to be much more interest in Trump than in other people in politics.
“It is very important that the justice system rebut what appears to be unequal enforcement or they will lose public trust.”
Vivek Ramaswamy, who is running for the Republican nomination in 2024, said he would pardon Trump if he was found guilty of any wrongdoing.
“It would be much easier for me to win this election if Trump did not participate in the race, but I stand for principles, not for politics.
“I pledge to pardon Trump immediately on January 20, 2025 and restore the rule of law to our country.”
Ted Cruz, who is also considered a potential contender in the 2024 nomination, said the allegations «would cause great damage to the rule of law.»

Some Republicans expressed concern about the allegations and said Trump should face trial.
Asa Hutchinson, who is running for the Republican nomination against Trump, said: «Donald Trump's actions — from his willful disregard for the Constitution to his disregard for the rule of law — should not define our nation or the Republican Party. This is a sad day for our country.”
Mr. Trump denies wrongdoing and will contest the allegations. On Thursday night, he wrote on Truth Social that he was «not guilty» and said that the case was brought by the «corrupt» Biden administration.
