Fiat continues to return forgotten names: following the new Topolino, the Italian brand is about to introduce a new «six hundredth» — the official video teaser has been published.
The first generation Fiat 600 is a small and cheap rear-engined passenger car that replaced the aforementioned Topolino in 1955 and became the ideological inspiration for the Soviet ZAZ-965. Despite its modest dimensions (length — less than 3.3 m, wheelbase — 2 m), the «six hundredth» was positioned as a fairly practical and versatile car, and for those who needed even more space for passengers and cargo, Fiat in 1966 released a volumetric Fiat 600 Multipla. In Italy, the Fiat 600 was produced until 1969 inclusive, its clones in other countries lasted much longer — for example, the Yugoslav Zastava 750 was produced right up to the mid-80s.

The new Fiat 600 will replace the not-too-successful Fiat 500X subcompact SUV, which has been in production since 2014 and is positioned as a global model (it is still sold in scanty quantities in the US). Unofficial photos of the Fiat 600 appeared on the Web in early May, and recently an official promo video of the novelty was released on the Fiat YouTube channel, a full premiere is expected in early July (Fiat did not name the exact date).
1/3 2/3 3/3There is no official technical information about the new Fiat 600 yet, but this is, in general, an open secret: it has long been known that the new Italian SUV will share the French CMP platform with a whole galaxy of associates from the Stellantis corporation, but its closest relative and neighbor on the assembly line at the Fiat assembly plant in the Polish city of Tychy — this is a fresh Jeep Avenger. Here in Tychy in 2024, the «third comrade» will be registered — the junior crossover Alfa Romeo, whose name has not yet been chosen.
The Fiat 600's relationship with the Jeep Avenger is evidenced by the shape of the side glazing (perhaps too angular for the overall rounded style of the model) and interior details: the Fiat has the same steering wheel as the Jeep and a horizontal multimedia screen with a diagonal of 10.25 inches. At the same time, there is no talk of badge engineering even at the cabin level — Stellantis management does not encourage this, so the Fiat 600 received a rounded front panel in the style of the Fiat 500e, a narrow instrument panel with a spherical visor and, probably, many other original details not shown in video.
Powerplants are likely to be the same as the Jeep: main version — electric, with a single motor on the front axle (156 hp, 260 Nm) and a battery with a capacity of 54 kWh, a full charge of which is enough for about 400 km on the WLTP cycle. In a number of markets, the Fiat 600 will certainly be offered with a 1.2 PureTech petrol “turbo engine” (100 hp, 205 Nm) paired with a 6-speed “mechanics”. Whether the Fiat 600 will have the all-wheel drive version promised to Jeep is still unknown.
Fiat aims to be fully electric in Europe by 2030, so all upcoming new models will either be all-electric or have «hydrocarbon» versions until 2030, aimed at conservative buyers.
