Crossover Lada X-Cross 5: production has begun

The SUV will go on sale in the third quarter, the model will be available with the same technique as the donor from FAW.

The first public display of the Lada X-Cross 5 crossover took place earlier this week as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). And today, June 17, AVTOVAZ officially announced the start of assembly of new items at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg, which is now called Lada St. Petersburg.

Recall that before this company made the Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail and Murano models. The production of Japanese brand crossovers was stopped last year almost immediately after the start of well-known events, then Nissan itself left Russia, transferring its assets to NAMI (while reserving the right to buy back within six years). And in February 2023, the site came under the control of AVTOVAZ.

Today's release says that more than 1,500 employees continue to work at the plant. At the same time, it was stated that the equipment was upgraded, including the main conveyor, as well as «internal logistics and assembly processes.» The Lada X-Cross 5 crossover is still being made using the SKD method (like Moskvich 3), later Lada St. Petersburg will start producing other models of the Eastern partner, including the D-segment (a certain sedan). In total, about 10,000 cars can leave the site this year. The five-seater Lada X-Cross 5 is a badge-engineering «Chinese» FAW Bestune T77, and the emblem of the Russian brand was hung on a pre-reform model (the cross went through restyling in the Celestial Empire at the end of last year).
