Ollie Robinson warns Australia: You need to change your approach to keep up with England

Ollie Robinson has been Australia's #1 public enemy since the first ash test. By: PA/Martin Rickett

Ollie Robinson continues Ash's flurry of incitement, arguing that despite winning the first Test, Australia needs to “change its approach to keep up” with England, who he promised will advance “stronger and stronger”.

England made it into the first Test, quickly scoring a defiant statement on the first day, but were defeated by a brilliant chase of 281 from Australia, completed by their captain, Pat Cummins.

Robinson became, in his own words, “Australia's public enemy No. 1 for swearing when Usman Khawaja was fired for 141 points, and then for a defiant press conference in which he showed no remorse. Now Robinson has written a column for Wisden that is unlikely to win him any new friends downstairs.

Robinson said England were so buoyant after the two-wicket loss at 19:21 on the fifth day, coach Brandon McCallum said it felt like a win.

“We were surprised at how defensive Australia was and how unwilling they were to go with us on an equal footing,” Robinson wrote. “Obviously this test match worked for them. But we feel that given the way they are playing right now, a field with a little more movement would be of great benefit to us.

“Baz said after the game: 'Looks like we won guys.' We entertained the world and put the Aussies on edge. It means a lot to him to say that after losing.

“We were surprised to see that Australia defends so well from the first ball. You just don't see the Aussies being so careful and slow.As soon as we saw the field for this first over, we felt like we were holding them.

“And then came Zack Crowley’s first shot. Brody [Stewart Broad] said it was his favorite moment in the Ashes. The noise, the sound, the crowd, it was amazing, and the roar in the locker room was so loud you'd think we'd already won the series.

“Most teams would agree. for a draw'

“We felt like we needed to move the game to give ourselves time to try and beat Australia. But let's be honest, even if the field had done a little more, we would have played the same way. We always choose the aggressive option. And this is what we saw in these five days on a rather obedient gate. I think most teams in the world would just settle for a draw and go down.

“But we want to capture people's imagination. We want children to grow up with the desire to play test cricket for England. I saw a record number of views of this match, which is special and shows that we are going in the right direction.

“Of course it sounds weird because they won it, but I think if they are honest, Australia will look at themselves and understand that they need to change their approach to keep up with the way we are going to play. If Lords has any movement on the field, the way we play compared to them will benefit us enormously.”

Robinson, like McCallum, predicted that England would be “more tougher” to Australia in the second test next Wednesday.

“I think from the way we play, you can see how we are even stronger in Lord's, which is quite hard to do when you are losing 1-0,” he wrote. “We talked about it in the dressing room. “Were we aggressive enough? Have we tried hard enough? Even if we lose by a small margin again and create another amazing test match, we'll still feel like we're doing what we want.

One thing I can guarantee. You will see how we will come stronger and stronger.”

Robinson also revealed that he made up with Khawaja after his outburst, which continues to draw the ire of Australian legends, who said he is “an unforgettable cricketer who throws bare nuts at 124 km/h.”

Matthew Hayden was the latest to accuse Robinson of telling Khawaja, “Fuck off, you fucking n…” on Sunday in the first Ash test, after firing him for 141.

“The other guy is an unmemorable cricketer,” Hayden told radio station SEN. “A fast bowler that goes up to 124 km/h [77 mph] is bare nuts and has a mouth from the south. Someone like him, you can just say, “Brother, I'm coming at you.” Davey Warner can do it, right. He can simply say, “You're bowling at 120 km/h.”

    Bare Nut: A Dictionary Definition

Robinson has an outstanding test score, averaging 21.2 after 17 matches. In the first test, he scored excellent matching scores of five out of 98.

Robinson joked that he took on “the mantle of Stuart Broad as Australia's number one public enemy”, which clearly came as a blow to his teammate, who responded to a tweet from Fox Cricket. “Villain #1?! I couldn't already lose that tag, could I?! Disappointing.”

Robinson wrote in his Wisden column that he caught up with Khawaja after the game, being “captured”.

“Nothing was against Ussi, it was just one of those things where I got caught up in the moment and let myself go,” he wrote.

“We all saw it with Jimmy [Anderson], Brody, [Glenn] McGrath, Brett Lee. All bowlers do this when they are on fire and trying to get a wicket for their team. After that, I spoke with Ussi, and everything was fine with us. He's like, “Mate, just be careful what you say.” There was nothing against him, and we had a good chat. He's a good guy and I've always gotten along well with him, played against him a few times.

“I think that at such important moments I sometimes forget where I am. And I have a thousand cameras! I don't usually act frankly when I get a wicket, usually it's just a loud roar or my eyes go a little crazy. Anyway, I definitely learned my lesson!”

Ponting: You need to back up your chat with your skills

At the infamous press conference at the end of game day, Robinson doubled down on his behavior saying “We've all seen Ricky Ponting, other Aussies do the same to us.”

Ponting has been involved in several obscene moments on Ashes and has been asked about it many times since then.

“Like I said after Ollie Robinson said what he said, this England cricket team has not played against Australia and they will learn pretty quickly what it means to play Ashes cricket and play against a good Australian cricket team.” Ponting said. ICC Review Podcast.

“And if Ollie Robinson hasn't found out since last week, then he's a slow learner.”

The Australian Daily Telegraph lauded England's defeat, leading four New South Walesers – Warner, Khawaja, Smith and Hazlewood – to “hit baseball-wearing poms”, while The Age ran a wide-eyed photo of Pat Cummins after hitting ball. winning streaks.

How “Uzzball beat Baseball” was sung by the Herald Sun, while an Aussie said: “Pat Bats Bats – Baseball fails.”

Former Australia goalkeeper Brad Haddin , another Player known for having a lot to say – not least to Brandon McCallum's New Zealand side – also kept an eye on Robinson.

“This is only the first Test match and England are playing in a very attractive style, they're about entertaining the crowd,” Haddin told the Willow Talk podcast.

“But they lost the Trial of Ashes, and maybe emotions got the better of him.

“You win these Skill test matches, on the last day it's a war of attrition and maybe he's just a little ahead of himself and just needs a little pat on the back from some of his older players.”
