For Europeans, the compact cross will be available exclusively as a hybrid, while a new version has been added to the range — with the ability to charge from the mains.
The Toyota C-HR SUV with an unusual design has been in service since 2016, the model underwent a more or less significant modernization in 2019. This is a global cross, but Europe is still the main market for it, and the five-door car feels quite confident there, although last year sales sank: according to JATO Dynamics statistics, 99,422 units were sold (-8%; 30th place in TOP 50 Old World Bestsellers). In general, it is not surprising that the “second” SUV made its debut in the European specification. By the way, it was announced that the new C-HR was developed specifically for the Old World, for this region the model will continue to be produced by the Turkish Toyota plant.

The product model as a whole repeated the show car, although there are still some improvements. In particular, the rear bumper became simpler, ordinary mirrors were installed instead of cameras, additional sections of lights disappeared from the tailgate (only a horizontal plate was left). Finally, the rear door handles of the serial C-HR are in their usual place (in the concept they are built into the lamp housings, while in the previous SUV they are located at the top). The handles are now retractable. In general, the appearance of the new SUV is made in the style of the electric train bZ4X and the latest Prius. Meanwhile, already at the start of sales, a sported version of the GR Sport will also be available, its chips are a different grille and 20-inch wheels.
The C-HR is still based on the GA-C trolley, created as part of the TNGA architecture. The wheelbase is the same 2640 mm as the previous crossover. At the same time, it is stated that the suspension, brakes and steering were reconfigured. The length of the new SUV is 4360 mm, which is 25 mm less than the outgoing model. But the width of the cross added 35 mm (now 1830 mm), and the height increased by 3 mm to 1558 mm.

Also available for the Toyota C-HR is a panoramic sunroof without a sliding section (no curtains either), which is said to block out ultraviolet rays. The list of equipment also includes a projection display, interior contour lighting and a set of Toyota Safety Sense security systems (adaptive cruise control, auto-braking systems, lane keeping, etc.). In addition, owners of the new SUV will be able to download a special application on their smartphone, with which it will be possible to start the engine, unlock/lock the doors and even control the valet.

The base one includes aspirated 1.8 (98 hp) and an electric motor with a capacity of 94 hp, the total output is 140 hp, only front-wheel drive. Next comes the option with aspirated 2.0 (152 hp): the front-wheel drive cross has an electric motor of 111 hp, and the all-wheel drive cross has an additional 41 hp electric motor on the rear axle, but the total return does not depend on the type of drive — 198 HP These hybrids are equipped with a 0.98 kWh battery.

The top cross is a rechargeable hybrid, it has a similar two-liter aspirated, but the electric motor already produces 163 hp, the total power is 223 hp. Four-wheel drive is not allowed for such an SUV. A 13.8 kWh battery is installed under the rear seat of the Toyota C-HR PHEV, and the car can travel 66 km on electric traction alone. And the electronics itself will transfer the plug-in hybrid crossover to a purely electric mode in the «green» zones, in which the use of cars with internal combustion engines is prohibited (navigator data is used for this).
The base hybrid will pick up the first « hundred «in 9.9 seconds, the front-wheel drive version of the HEV 2.0 — in 8.1 seconds, all-wheel drive — in 7.9 seconds. The plug-in hybrid will complete this exercise in 7.4 seconds.
