Ben Elton insisted that he didn't intend to «rob» Rishi Sunak, and rejected BBC claims of bias against conservatives after his appearance on a leading political show.
The comedian and documentary filmmaker called the prime minister a «deceitful narcissistic sociopath» when asked to comment on an interview he gave to the Sunday newspaper. with Laura Kuensberg.
Speaking as a panelist on Ms. Kuensberg's program, Mr. Elton said Mr. Sunak «felt conceited» when he uttered what was called «Orwellian word salad» in response to questions about an increase in interest rates. .

His remarks angered some members of the Conservative Party, with a source accusing the corporation of bias against the party.
They told The Telegraph that the producers deliberately invite «anti-Conservative people» to the program to offend party members before how it will be «pushed out on social networks».
Paul Bristow, a Conservative MP, also lashed out at the comedian, saying he was part of a «Champagne Socialist cabal» from North London. insisted his remarks were a «personal reaction» to Mr Sunak's interview and denied that the BBC was aware of his criticism.
He told LBC: «I didn't intend to rob the prime minister -minister. I played my railway documentary… we almost didn't get a chance to mention it because of Russia.
“They had a big interview with the prime minister. We sat through it, it lasted 20 minutes, and I got angry.
“I really, really wanted to hear some right commitment, some right principle, and some real new ideas… what I heard was a verbal salad of evasiveness, a quarter truth and a lie.
«If they hadn't played the interview, I wouldn't have said anything about it.
«BBC don't know what was going to say it, but then I didn't know they would play this word salad and then asking me to comment on it… it's live.»

In his interview with Ms. Kuensberg, which aired during the Sunday show, Mr. Sunak said that “inflation is it's the enemy» and defended the Bank of England's decision to raise interest rates to a 15-year high last week, adding to the pressure on mortgage holders.

A Tory source said: “The BBC producers deliberately chose to invite anti-conservative people from the art world to personally insult the Tories. After that, it's all packaged up and then posted on social media.
«Payers of license fees want to see guests who can provide real analysis of important issues, and not just throw around petty personal ridicule.
«No wonder viewers are turning off.»
Mr Bristow told The Telegraph: «That's why the BBC thinks it's important to broadcast to the nation what Ben Elton says is beyond me.»

In response to Mr Bristow's response, Mr Elton indicated that he was born in Catford, South East London and that he currently lives in Sussex.
