Frame SUV BAIC BJ40 is about to receive a Russian residence permit

A new model for our market will be launched at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad. The price is already known.

The Russian Avtotor officially announced cooperation with the Chinese concern BAIC in April this year, at the same time the serial production of two models began — the BAIC U5 Plus sedan and the BAIC X35 crossover, their production is still carried out «in the mode industrial assembly based on a welded and painted body with partial localization of first-level components” (quote from the April release). Now the plant is preparing to start mass assembly of another model — the BAIC BJ40 frame SUV.

According to the press service of Avtotor, several all-terrain vehicles have already been made in test mode. Now the company «works on adjusting operating charts, setting up and reprogramming tools and equipment, equipping the production line with additional equipment designed to produce a new model.» In addition, the plant is completing the training of personnel who are directly involved in assembly production. Mass production of the BJ40 Avtotor is expected to begin in July.

By the way, as part of the launch of the U5 Plus and X35, the company announced plans to launch full-cycle production of BAIC models from 2024 with welding and painting of bodies, followed by the localization of paints and varnishes and stamping. Whether BJ40 is included in the list is not specified yet.

Recall that in China, an SUV with Jeep Wrangler motives debuted back in 2013, several modifications are presented there, and at home the model will soon move to a new generation (such an SUV will no longer have those same Jeep motives). In Russia, the frame of the first generation will be “registered”, and only in the long-wheelbase four-door version with a removable plastic roof. The dimensions of our version: 4630/1925/1871 mm, the distance between the axles is 2745 mm.

In the Russian market, the BAIC BJ40 will be offered with a 2.0 petrol turbo engine with a capacity of 225 hp . (380 Nm), which is combined with an eight-speed automatic ZF. The SUV has a hard-wired all-wheel drive. For our BJ40, only one Flagship package has been announced so far (it was announced back in the spring), the list of equipment includes: LED optics, virtual tidy, multimedia system, heated steering wheel and front seats, rear view camera, standard DVR, dual-zone climate control and cruise -control. Price — 3,759,900 rubles.

Meanwhile, in early June, Avtotor told about the preparation for production of another BAIC model — SUV X55. In total, the company plans to master the production of seven models of the concern by the end of the year.
