Ajman is home to many passengers who work in the commercial center of the Persian Gulf in Dubai, to the south. Like Dubai, it is one of the seven emirates that make up the UAE.
There were no immediate comments from UAE officials.
There have been several similar fires in the UAE recently. years that have been associated with the flammable cladding of many of the country's ubiquitous high-rise buildings.
On New Year's Eve 2015, flames swept through an upscale hotel and residential complex near Dubai's Burj Khalifa, the tallest skyscraper in the world. As a result of the fire and evacuation, 15 people were injured. The Dubai Police eventually blamed the fire on exposed wiring.
Regulations enforced in the aftermath of this fire require all such cladding to be replaced with fire retardant material.
