Aston Villa are ready to sign Pau Torres for £31.5m from Villarreal.

Aston Villa are poised to complete their second signing this summer with the signing of Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres for £31.5m.

Unai Emery makes another move an important statement of intent following the raid at his former club on the Spanish international, who is expected to arrive for a medical examination in the coming days.

Torres, 26, has been one of Emery's main targets in this transfer window, and Monchi, the new President of Villa's football operations, has reached an agreement with Villarreal to take him to the Premier League.

Villarreal are struggling with this. financial problems and must get rid of players after missing out on the Champions League next season and Villa have been known to have negotiated a fee well below Torres' release clause of around £55m. The price is expected to be around €36m (£31.5m).

Bayern Munich and Manchester City have been considering signing Torres of late, but it is Emery, who left Villarreal last year, who is now set to sign him.

Villa has already announced the signing of the former midfielder Leicester Yuri. Tielemans is in the free transfer and gearing up for another busy summer.

Emery's next focus will be on adding wingers, including Leicester's Harvey Barnes and Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson.

Villa are also in talks with Premier League newcomers Luton Town over another loan deal for Zimbabwean midfielder Marvelous Nakamba.

Luton don't want to spend big this summer and can't pay Nakambe's salary, so another temporary agreement is the likely outcome.

Villa confirmed last week that John McGinn had signed a new contract, and negotiations with forward Ollie Watkins for better terms are ongoing.

Meanwhile, Villa announced that their holding company, V Sports, has scaled back its stake in Vitoria Sport Clube to meet UEFA requirements.

The statement read: “Today, V Sports announced that it has reduced its stake in Vitoria Sport Clube – Futebol, SAD to 29% to transfer shares of 17 % of the club's total capital, back to Vitoria SC.
