New BMW M5 Touring wagon: first images

At the beginning of this week, the German company released official teasers for the first mass-produced M5 Touring station wagon in a long time. Using the available photographs of camouflaged samples, we made our own idea of ​​the appearance of the future novelty.

The BMW M5 model first appeared in 1984 and was based on the E28 5 Series sedan. That car was offered only as a sedan, but already in the next generation (E34), the Emka acquired a station wagon variant with the Touring prefix, which is one of the rarest production cars of the BMW Motorsport division (891 copies were produced). The M5 based on the E39 also exists in the form of a station wagon, only in a single copy: one prototype was built, but the car did not go into series due to financial difficulties. Finally, the last M5 Touring with the E61 index (based on the once popular E60 sedan in Russia) appeared in 2007 and was mass-produced until 2010, just over 1000 copies were produced in total. The next two generations have only four doors, but the company decided to revive the cargo-passenger version, one of the confirmations of which are the official photos of the prototype.

According to available information, the new station wagon will be a rechargeable hybrid. The power plant will be based on the 4.4-liter S63 V8 engine with a capacity of 626 hp, and the total output can be about 800 hp. and 1000 Nm of torque. For comparison, the current generation M5 in the most powerful version of the CS has 635 hp. and 750 Nm.

Road tests of the new M5 wagon will start the other day, and its premiere is expected next year.
