Fulham is in talks with Benfica over a deal for Brazilian centre-back Morato to bolster Marco Silva's defense next season.
Silva targeted the 22-year-old Morato to increase competition at the heart of his defense and generate interest from other clubs in Tosin Adarabioyo, who shared the load with Tim Rome and Issa Diop as they finished in the top half of the Premier League.
Benfica won the Primeira Liga last season and Morato played 20 games in all competitions during the campaign and he has attracted attention at Craven Cottage as a potential recruit.The Portuguese champions have a long history of players heading to England and Morato is seen as another player who could adapt in the Premier League. After playing for Sao Paulo in Brazil, he moved to Benfica in 2019. He also fits Silva as a left centre-back.
Meanwhile, in Fulham there is confidence that interest in Anthony Robinson can be parried with a new contract for the defender of the US national team. The 25-year-old is at the top of the list of Premier League clubs looking for a left-back following his performances last season.
But the new deal will link his immediate future to Fulham, where he has been for three years since his move from Wigan Athletic. They also hope to keep Willian at the club despite there being no agreement on a new deal yet.
Barnsley sacks Collins from Rhodes
Barnsley has appointed Scottish coach Neil Collins as his new manager following his impressive performance in America with the Tampa Bay Rowdies .
League One club have been evaluating candidates since Michael Duff left for Swansea in the Championship and Collins intended to launch another promotion after reaching the play-off final last season.
Collins, a former Sheffield United and Wolves centre-back, spent seven years at Tampa after first playing at his last club before retiring to take up coaching.
He was the manager of the USL Championship team, one division below MLS, and won the Eastern Conference in 2021. His success put English clubs on their guard and he was scouted at Walsall this summer, but Barnsley had a breakthrough with a deal.
The 39-year-old will inherit from Duff a team that was drawn to Wembley in May but lost to Sheffield Wednesday to miss out on a return to the league. After finishing fourth in the table last season, they are expected to be in contention for promotion under their new manager.
As a player, Collins has experience of being promoted from League One after joining Leeds United in 2010, and also won league titles with Wolverhampton and Sunderland early in his playing career.
Boro recruits Senegal goalkeeper
Middlesbrough has agreed with QPR on a price for goalkeeper Seny Dieng.
The 28-year-old, who was at the World Cup with his country last year, is due to undergo a medical examination and discuss personal conditions in the next few days.
Boros were looking for a goalkeeper after Zach Steffen returned to Manchester City from a loan spell last season.
Garcia heads to Saudi Arabia
< p>Former Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia is a well-known target for a move to Saudi Arabia after spending two years at Barcelona.
The 22-year-old Spain international has ended his contract with « City». back to his childhood club and he won La Liga last season, although there is interest from Real Betis and now the Middle East for his signature.
Betis are also interested in a deal for 26-year-old Leeds midfielder Mark Roca, who was relegated from the Premier League last season.
