Other Members of Parliament warned that Mr Khan's Ulez expansion would hit consumers.
Siobhan McDonagh, MP for Mitcham and Morden, said: «Although I fully agree environmental concerns at the heart of the proposals and I am very concerned about the need to help improve London's air quality, I personally do not believe that making driving inaccessible to some of the most vulnerable people in our capital is the best or fairest way to address these issues.» .
Clive Efford, MP Eltham said: “I absolutely agree with the principle Sadik is trying to achieve. I'd rather it be delayed by the cost of living crisis because I understand the hardships many people will have.»
John Cruddas, MP for Dagenham and Raynham, said: For years I have been concerned about this in terms of introducing a cost of living during the crisis and argued that it should be postponed.”
Mr Khan argues that a low-emission zone is the only way to improve air quality in the capital using cameras to track the journeys of drivers in non-compliant vehicles. This policy is being challenged by five Conservative-run councils in the High Court.
