Anneliese Dodds at Soho Pride, London, with Deputy Labor Leader Angela Rayner and leader Keir Starmer. renounced gender identity as the party affirmed it would not follow Nicola Sturgeon's ill-fated transgender law.
Party chair Anneliese Dodds insisted that «sex and gender are different» and that a formal diagnosis would still be required for transgender people to be treated by the NHS.
Sir Keir Starmer, Labor's leader, had earlier promised to change the law to allow transgender people to self-declarate their gender, echoing Ms Sturgeon's plans, which Westminster vetoed, to allow those over the age of 16 to identify themselves without consulting a doctor.
Ms Dodds admitted in an article for the Guardian that Labor's new position, expected to be put forward in the general election, «won't please everyone» in the general election amid backlash from her party.
“The requirement to receive a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria remains an important part of accessing a gender recognition certificate,” she wrote.
“We must recognize that sex and gender are different, as the Equality Act does. We will ensure that nothing in our streamlined gender recognition process overrides the single-sex exception in the Equality Act.”
Ms Dodds accused the SNP of having a «cavalier approach» to self-identification, adding: «The proposed measures to protect women and girls from predators who could abuse the system were simply not up to par.
«As a result, the Scottish government is still gaining momentum and transgender rights are not moving forward.»

She reiterated Labor's commitment to reforming the Gender Recognition Act (GRA) to make the transition easier for Britons.
This suggests that gender dysphoria will be diagnosed by a single doctor, as opposed to the current scheme, which involves a panel of anonymous clinicians.
Sir Keir promised the LGBT community in 2021 that if elected, he would take similar action to Scotland regarding self-identification in England and Wales, telling PinkNews: “We are looking to update the GRA [Gender Recognition Act] to introduce self-declaration for trans people «. transgender debate in Scotland.
Last month, Shadow Domestic Violence Minister Jess Phillips urged the party to defend same-sex spaces in a clear challenge to its leader.
Rosie Duffield, the Canterbury Labor MP, spoke of the party feeling «cold about» its gender-critical views, comparing the experience to past abusive relationships.

Scottish Labor have distanced themselves from Ms Dodds' remarks with Richard Leonard, MP for Central Scotland, tweeting: «Scottish Labor's position on this issue is clear.
«We support self-identification for transgender people and oppose the UK government's attempt to block the needed reform we voted for.» Scotland.»
Scottish Labor leader Anas Sarwar, who has incited his MPs to support the SNP bill, remained silent on the matter on Monday.
The LGBT Labor pressure group said in a statement: «It is very worrying that the Labor Party is signaling the abandonment of its policy of medicalization of self-identification for the trans community at the next general election.» the annual conference in Liverpool last year welcomed the «shift in support of clarifying the definition of a woman in the Equality Act and the rejection of self-identification».
