Joint venture with JMC (Jiangling Motors Corporation) Ford expands commercial vehicle line-up for China: Transit will enter the local market in autumn the seventh generation in European chronology, but in China it will have a more fashionable design than its Euro-Atlantic counterpart, and a different interior.
Earlier this month, Ford announced another dose of updates for the European “seventh” Transit, which has been in production for ten years and underwent a planned restyling in 2018. Surprisingly, seventh-generation vans and minibuses are new to China. So far, Transits of the fourth and sixth generations are produced and sold here, and they have a unique design – not the same as the European source codes. The “fourth” Transit is known in China as the JMC Teshun, the “sixth” as the JMC Fushun and Ford Transit, and the JMC Fushun has a simplified interior and its own front end design. And in China in February of this year, an updated local lighter van Ford Transit Custom debuted based on the previous generation European model of the same name, and it also now has its own exterior and interior design. All this cavalcade, unseen outside of China, is sold through Ford's Chinese consumer site, JMC emblems on some models are not embarrassing.
p>Today, the Chinese magazine Autohome published photos from the presentation of the “seventh” Transit for China and claims that it will go on sale next fall. As you can see, the front of the Chinese version of the model is very different from the global one, that is, it is, in fact, an alternative and more recent restyling. The design of the headlights is borrowed from the current mid-size Ford Ranger pickup truck, some versions even have a characteristic plastic cross bar between the headlights (clearly visible in the title photo), and in general, several front design options have been developed for the Chinese Transit: rich passenger versions have a large chrome “grill”, in the electric version, instead of a grille between the headlights, there is a blank panel in body color, the “workhorses” have a simple plastic mesh. The design of the taillights of the new Chinese Transit is also different, but all the main bodywork is the same as the global version.

From the driver's seat, the “seventh” Chinese Ford Transit repeats the aforementioned updated Chinese Ford Transit Custom: the front panel is crowned with a two-screen display (each screen has a diagonal of 12.3 inches), there are no less places for small things in the Chinese front panel than in foreign ones. The design of the passenger compartment depends on the modification: there are simple one-piece sofas, there are typical bus seats with integral headrests, and there are expensive, more comfortable and spacious seats with separate headrests for business shuttles.

There is still little information about the technology: colleagues from Autohome report that the Chinese “seventh” Transit will be equipped with diesel engines with a displacement of 2.0 and 2.3 liters, paired with a 6-speed “mechanics” or an 8-speed hydromechanical “automatic” (the European Transit will have this only next year). Options will include the latest electronic driver assistance systems (up to Level 2 autopilot) and adjustable rear air suspension. : for the Chinese Transit, a more capacious battery of 100 kWh is declared (for the global version – 68 kWh), the power reserve on a single charge will be about 320 km. No pricing details yet.
