In the new generation, the SUV shared the platform with the older 300, grew noticeably and acquired hybrid versions. However, the «traditional» options are also preserved.
The previous Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with the factory index J150 debuted already in 2009, the last time the SUV received a portion of new things in 2020. And finally, the next generation model is presented — the J250 series. Moreover, Toyota decided to expand the geography of SUV sales: the novelty will reach North America. Note that in many countries the current all-terrain vehicle does not have the “surname” Prado — there it is just a Land Cruiser. The same applies to the J250.

What the new SUV will look like was outlined by the fresh related Lexus GX, which was revealed a couple of months ago: the cars have a common body. But the Prado, of course, has its own design, in addition to the Toyota model, there are now two options for the design of the front end — with rectangular or round headlights (“kruglyashes” refer to the former Kruzaks). Like the Lexus GX, the tailgate is now lifting, not hinged, although it was possible to open the glass separately. In general, the new LC Prado looks both more brutal and more solid than its predecessor.

The SUV retained the frame structure, while it moved to the GA-F platform, on which the same Lexus GX is built, as well as older models of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX. The frame is now 50% stiffer, the overall rigidity of the entire structure is increased by 30%. The Prado has an independent double wishbone suspension at the front and a solid axle at the rear. Suspension — spring, with passive shock absorbers, while the Lexus GX can have adaptive ones. The KDSS system with active stabilizers is no longer available, but the LC Prado has a releasable front anti-roll bar. The model also got an electric power steering (the previous SUV had a hydraulic power steering).
As before, the transmission is with permanent all-wheel drive, a center limited-slip differential and a reduction gear. Also, the SUV by default has two locks and off-road «cruise» Crawl Control. Multi-Terrain Select now has more driving modes (also works with low gear activated).

In the new generation, the Prado has grown noticeably: length — 4925 mm (+100 mm compared to its predecessor), width — 1980 mm (+95 mm), height — 1870 mm (+20 mm). The wheelbase is the same 2850 mm as the Land Cruiser 300 (the former Prado's figure is 2790 mm). The passport ground clearance of the new item is 220 mm, the approach angle is 30 or 31 degrees (depending on the version), the exit angle is 22 degrees.

Inside — a virtual tidy with a multimedia system display stuck to it (the instrument screen itself is recessed), round side air vents and a push-button climate control panel. The model also has a panoramic roof, heated seats, ventilation of the front seats, a head-up display, a “digital” salon mirror (the image from the rear view camera is displayed on it). And of course, Prado received a set of Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 security systems (adaptive cruise control, auto-braking systems, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping, etc.).
A wide range of powertrains has been announced for the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, but the technology will differ depending on the region. Of the common for all countries — only four-cylinder engines (V6 has become the prerogative of the Lexus GX) and the absence of a manual transmission. >
In Eastern Europe and Japan, the base Prado will be available with a 2TR-FE 2.7 petrol aspirator (163 hp, 246 Nm), which is paired with a six-speed automatic. In Europe as a whole, as well as in Japan and the Middle East, the SUV will still be offered with the familiar 1GD-FTV 2.8 turbodiesel (204 hp, 500 Nm) in combination with a six- or eight-speed automatic (depending on the market). And in Western Europe and Australia, this diesel will also receive a 48-volt starter-generator, that is, the Prado will turn into a «mild» hybrid.
1/6 2/6 3/6 4/6 5/6 6/6In the Middle East and Eastern Europe there will also be a Prado with a T24A-FTS 2.4 petrol turbo engine (281 hp, 430 Nm) and 8 automatic transmission. Finally, a full-fledged hybrid (but without the possibility of charging from the mains) will appear in North America and China with the i-Force Max installation: this is the same turbo four, plus an electric motor built into an eight-speed automatic and a modest 1.87 kWh battery; the total output of such an LC Prado is 330 hp. and 630 Nm.

The new generation SUV will be produced at two factories in Japan. In some places, orders will begin to be accepted in the fall, but the cars will reach customers only next year. By the way, in the States, the preliminary starting price is already known — approximately $ 50,000.
