The Shenzhen-based electric vehicle maker passed the 1 million mark in May 2021 and took a year to reach 2 million units. Six months later, it reached 3 million. Now that record has been literally shattered as BYD built 2 millionunits over9 monthsat an average rate of 7,407 vehicles per day.
The automaker has nine manufacturing bases in the country, with the Xi'an plant, with a production capacity of 900,000 units, being the brand's largest production site. The total current annual capacity of BYDis more than 1.95 million vehicles.Last year, the company began building a plant in Thailand with a capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year and announced the construction of one or two plants in Europe.
This year we witnessed another record year for BYD. In April, the automaker overtook Volkswagenas the best-selling brand in China and became the first local brand to overtake the legendary German marque.
January-July sales were 1,517,798 passenger cars, which is 88.81% more than in the same period last year. Exports also hit a record high of 92,458. The company's 2023 sales target is 3 million units.In 2022, BYDsold 1.86 million vehicles.
