Luxeed: a new joint brand of Chery and Huawei showed the first model

Chinese IT giant Huawei continues to expand its automotive business with the launch of its second brand, Luxeed.

Huawei diversified its business in 2019 amid U.S. sanctions and loss of access to Google software, including the Android operating system. To replace Android, the Chinese company has developed its own unified operating system HarmonyOS, suitable not only for smartphones, but also for a host of other devices, including cars. Huawei's first automotive brand was Aito, which was launched two years ago with Seres and is now vying for market share with other young Chinese brands. For Seres, the partnership with Huawei is not exclusive: Huawei management decided to bet not several collaborations at once, for example, a joint luxury minivan with JAC is on the way, and today the Luxeed brand has been revealed to the world, which, according to CarNewsChina, the IT giant invented together with by Chery.

Last Friday, the world premiere of the next generation of the operating system from Huawei, HarmonyOS 4, took place, its first car carrier will be the first Luxeed model, known so far under the factory index EH3. The full launch of the Luxeed EH3 is expected later this year, but so far only the first image has been published, which shows an unremarkable large sedan (possibly a liftback) with recessed door handles and lidar above the windshield.

In addition to lidar, the Luxeed EH3 has 11 high-resolution video cameras, 3 radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors and a powerful computing processor — all this is necessary for a full-fledged autopilot to work, although in China, we recall, level 3 and higher autopilots are not currently legalized, that is, any driving any miracle car must be controlled by the driver.

The Luxeed EH3 is based on the latest developed by Chery modular platform E0X with 800-volt electrical architecture, on this platform it is possible to make both electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Chery itself announced on the E0X platform a new flagship sedan from the Arrizo line and a new Sterra/Exlantix electric car line under the Exeed brand. Luxeed appears to be positioned above Exeed and will offer the consumer an advanced digital experience, including the latest video games on board and a quadcopter with a video camera for immersive streaming.

Talking Luxeed officially going beyond China is still too early, but we have no doubt that gray dealers will promptly bring a fashionable novelty to Russia.
