From the Gorgeous Alex Greenwood to the Nameless Ella Thoon: The Lionesses Rating

England's Women's World The Cup campaign ended with a loss to Spain in the final, but there were many ups (and a few downs) before the final whistle was blown in Sydney. Telegraph Sport ranks the performances of all the lionesses who have competed in the tournament…

GoalkeeperMary Earps: 8/10

Reaffirmed her reputation as the best goalkeeper in the world once again, especially with vital saves in the first legs when England weren't playing very well .

Lucy's Defenders, Bronze 7/10

Distraught after losing the final, fearing it was her last chance to win a world championship at the age of 31. But what a player she was and remains for England. Not quite the player of her prime as her knee problems keep her from moving forward, but still a good tournament. Will she be back in four years?

Milli Bright 8/10

Looked rusty in the first leg against Haiti after four months away due to injury, but has been great since then. It is so important to dominate in air duels, a warrior in the center of defense and a great leader. Her distribution has also greatly improved and she physically intimidates opponents.

Lost in second game against Denmark but England's Ms Chilled was arguably the most underrated player at the tournament. Her defensive zeal, her strength and her one-on-one experience were a huge part of England's defensive brilliance. Squad players, helped out a lot backstage and were a very popular member of the squad.

Rachel Daley 7/10

Her annoyance at starting the first game on the bench was evident but, as at the Euros last summer, she downplayed the fact that she had gone from striker to fullback. Played as a centre-forward, left-back and left-winger in this World Cup and never once complained. The hidden reason for England's success.

Alex Greenwood 9/10

A superb contribution by the Manchester City defender, which more than made up for the fact that she lost her place in the starting line-up shortly before the Euros last summer. A strong case that she was the best player in England, flawless in defense and so good with the ball. No one noticed captain Leah Williamson's absence.

Women's World Cup Final MidfieldersLaura Coombs 6/10

It was clear that when Kira Walsh came out with an injury against Denmark, taking the England bench by surprise, it was veteran Manchester City player who supported the situation in the middle of the field.

Stanway, GA 5/10

Had a disappointing tournament and was not in the best shape most of the time, especially in terms of attack. However, she was belligerent in midfield and kept the team in form defensively.

Ella Toon 5/10

Roller coaster. Looked unsure and out of shape in the group stage and was duly replaced by Lauren James. She could have pouted, but got back on the sidelines after a red card from James and scored a good goal in the semi-finals. Anonymous, again, in the final.

Kira Walsh 6/10

Thought her world championship was over when she was carried away with a knee injury and was a little embarrassed when it turned out it wasn't serious. Rarely passes the ball, but may have become too risk-averse. Didn't affect the big moments we've come to expect, and very badly in the finale by her standards.

Gorgeous in her only match against China and might feel a little bummed out about being back on the bench as soon as Walsh was back in shape. But she played a bigger role in the tournament than she could have imagined back in June. Should be proud.

ForwardsAlessia Russo 7/10

Her lack of form and goal threat was a huge problem early in the campaign and she had to live up to her golden reputation. But she looked like a completely different player when Hemp was next to her and scored in both the quarter-finals and the semi-finals. Unfortunately, not at its best in the final.

Lauren Hemp 9/10

Another player who stepped up when there was pressure. Eliminated in the group stage and looked like a pale shadow of the player she was when she burst onto the international scene in 2020. But she was encouraged to move into the middle along with Russo, and she became the most dangerous player in England in the last rounds.

Beth England 6/10

Didn't take the field for the Euro but pushed Russo up close here and there were some considerations to start her against Colombia as she impressed as a group stage substitute. Another person who will feel they have played their part in Australia and be pleased with her efforts.

Lauren James 7/10

English football is blessed with one of the most interesting young players in the world, and it looked like this: there will be a James tournament to dominate. After a superb performance against Denmark and China, she was rightly sent off for stamping against Nigeria and missed two elimination games. Contrasting emotions must have been extremely difficult for a 21-year-old girl in her first major tournament, but she will come again.

The winner of the final match against Germany last year, she didn't quite expect the tournament. and lost her place early. However, the way she scored the winning penalty against Nigeria was one of her most memorable moments.
