Manchester United are looking to sign Sergio Reguilon on a fixed-term loan after refusing to move to Chelsea's Mark Cucurella.
Reguilon, 25, underwent a medical in Manchester on Thursday night, with a deal due Friday morning. United cover the Spaniard's full salary, but most importantly, there is no loan fee. Efforts to sign Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, on loan from Fiorentina, however, are taking longer.
United have been looking for a left-back since Luke Shaw suffered a muscle injury that will likely keep him England defender out until November, with his backup Tyrell Malasia also out for the foreseeable future with a knee problem.
There have been talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for Cucurella, but the cost and complications of the deal. The appearance of the Spain left-back in the League Cup for the West London club on Wednesday night prompted United to turn their attention to Reguilon.
Furthermore, United are believed to have wanted to include a break clause any loan deal for Cucurella, but the option to send the player back to Chelsea in January was effectively forfeited due to his performance in Wednesday's 2-1 League Cup win over Wimbledon as players cannot play for three clubs in one season.
United originally planned to sign Reguilon three years ago, but instead the player moved to Spurs from Real Madrid and left the Manchester club to sign Alex Telles from Porto instead .
