Proud Boy leader Ethan Nordin, 33, was also sentenced to 18 years in prison after being found guilty of sedition and felony charges in May. At the moment, this sentence is the longest sentence in this case.
Pezzola, 46, a former Marine, was found guilty of assaulting police and obstructing official proceedings. But he was acquitted on the charge of sedition.
When sentencing Pezzola, U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly called him the «tip of the spear» in the assault.
Pezzola broke the window, enabling others rioters broke into the building during the January 6 uprising.
“The reality is that you broke that window and allowed people to start pouring into the Capitol building and threaten the lives of our legislators,” Judge Kelly Pezzole said.
“This is not something I ever dreamed of seeing in our country,” said the judge.

Prosecutors seeking a 20-year prison sentence told the court that Pezzola shouted obscenities and fought with the police before taking the shield from the officer.

Pezzola and Nordin were the latest members of the far-right Proud Boys convicted of participating in a violent attempt to overturn Joe Biden's election victory.
Joseph Biggs, 39, was jailed on Thursday for 17 years. Zachary Rel, 38, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
More than 1,100 people were charged with federal offenses related to the assault. More than 600 of them were convicted, more than half of them were sent to prison.
