Mercedes-Benz presented today at the IAA Mobility exhibition in Munich a prototype electric four-door called the Concept CLA Class. Officially announced that this show car is the harbinger of a new family of models that will open the gamut of the premium brand. Yes, it is the CLA that will soon become the cheapest passenger car Mercedes, because the A-Class and B-Class, according to the brand's fresh model strategy, will not receive heirs.

Of course, the main bet is made on «green», although some German specialized media believe that there will still be versions with internal combustion engines in the new Entry Luxury line. The «budget» Mercedes will be based on the new MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture) modular platform with an 800-volt electrical system, the «green» models will have rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (one or two electric motors, respectively). The power plant is a new generation, «inspired» by another concept — the Mercedes-Benz EQXX, which debuted in January: an electric motor, inverters, a two-speed box and electronics will be placed in a single housing. It is stated that the initial versions of serial electric cars will be offered with lithium-iron-phosphate batteries, and the top versions will receive silicon batteries. The promised maximum range is approximately 750 km according to the WLTP cycle.
Well, now directly about the Concept CLA Class. Before us is a coupe-like rear-wheel drive sedan with a 238-horsepower engine. The show car is about 4.74 meters long, compared to about 4.7 meters for the current four-door Mercedes CLA. The concept has an unusual appearance. So, the role of the head optics is performed by diode half-rings with three-beam stars in the middle, while luminous three-dimensional stars are scattered over the entire surface of the plug, imitating a radiator grille. The front and rear are surrounded by «light» strips: they pass through the wings and float on the doors (when turned off, they look like chrome decor). The prototype has a glass roof and sits on 21-inch wheels. By the way, photo spies have already caught a disguised test sedan, and so it had more familiar headlights. 11

The interior was designed in the style of the aforementioned EQXX: the Concept CLA Class electric sedan also received a scoreboard stretched across the entire width of the front panel. Round side «deflectors» are touch screens with which you can adjust the temperature; the air ducts themselves are located under the same single panel. In the center of the legs, there is a small «showcase» with a high-performance water-cooled chip from Nvidia: this is the «heart» of the new MB.OS operating system. A new generation Mercedes-Benz CLA with concept design will be put on the conveyor at the end of 2024. German media believe that a fresh four-door will cost at least 50,000 euros, while the current CLA in Germany today costs from 42,000 euros. Well, for comparison, the prices are still the cheapest Mercedes: the A-Class hatch in the brand's homeland costs from 36,700 euros, the A-class sedan — from 37,700 euros.
