Low-tonnage and medium-duty Forland chassis, as well as an all-metal van and a passenger bus were brought to the international exhibition of commercial vehicles, which is taking place in Moscow Foton.
The current portfolio of Chinese brands during the Comtrans-2023 exhibition was shown by the Avtodom Group of Companies together with JSC MB Rus. It is reported that Forland and Foton commercial vehicles are designed for various business segments. Recall that back in the spring it became known that these companies had signed a distribution agreement for the supply of Chinese Forland brand equipment to the country, and now Avtodom and MB Rus held the official Russian premiere of this brand.

According to distributors, the Forland models presented at the exhibition of commercial vehicles will enter the Russian market in the first quarter of 2024. We are talking about low-tonnage and medium-tonnage chassis Forland 3, Forland 5, Forland 8 and Forland 12 with a gross weight of 3.5 to 12 tons, equipped, as noted in a press release, with “time-tested” diesel engines.
The list of equipment of these commercial vehicles includes ABS, ESC, cruise control, air conditioning, infotainment system, rear view camera, multifunction steering wheel, heated exterior mirrors and power windows. Equipment distributors emphasized that Forland car owners will have a three-year warranty period without mileage restrictions, as well as a service interval of 20,000 km or six months.
It is known that Avtodom and MB Rus will offer not only chassis, but also complete vehicles with various types of bodies, which are most in demand among Russian business representatives, for example, manufactured goods vans, tow trucks, mobile workshops, «various individual solutions».
At the Comtrans-2023 exhibition, a refrigerator based on the Forland 8 medium-duty chassis was presented. The car is an isothermal van with a gross weight of 9 tons with a Thermo King refrigeration unit. The modification received an external and internal plastic coating of the superstructure panels, reinforced with fiberglass, as well as a floor covering made of anti-slip plastic, which lightens the weight of the structure. Its load capacity is 5 tons, and the volume of the body is 21 cubic meters.Another light commercial vehicle Foton Toano (the corresponding distribution agreement was signed in June) was presented at the booth of Avtodom Group of Companies and JSC MB Rus in two versions — an all-metal van and a passenger bus. It is reported that the same team that developed the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter worked on the creation of this model. Toano can have a cargo compartment with a volume of 9.1 to 12 cubic meters, and a gross weight of up to 3.5 and 4.2 tons, respectively.
Foton Toano is equipped with a 2.8-liter ISF Cummins CRDi turbodiesel, its return is 150 hp, and the maximum torque is 330 Nm. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. Optionally, it is proposed to install a double-leaf rear door with an opening angle of up to 270 degrees (for more convenient loading). Already this month, sales of vans with a gross weight of 3.5 tons will begin in the Russian Federation, later a version up to 4.2 tons, as well as passenger buses will join them.
Andrey Olkhovsky, General Director of Avtodom recalled plans for the former site of Mercedes-Benz, located in the suburbs. “Now our industrial team is focused on launching the production of a brand of Chinese passenger cars at the Esipovo plant, which will be restarted next year,” he said. “In the medium term, we expect an increase in production volumes up to 100,000 modern technological vehicles per year.” According to unconfirmed reports, cars of the premium Hongqi brand can stand on this conveyor. He also added that Avtodom is considering «the possibility of launching the production of small-tonnage segment cars on a third-party site.»
