The young Chinese company Avatr Technology has its own design studio in Munich, so the debut of the new Avatr 12 model at the Bavarian the capital of the IAA Mobility exhibition was more than appropriate, especially since the Avatr brand is about to enter the European market.
Avatr Technology was founded in 2018 as a joint venture between Changan and Nio, but Nio is soon withdrew from the project due to financial difficulties, it was replaced by the battery manufacturer CATL and the IT giant Huawei, and in such an updated composition of the joint venture last year, it briskly started in the Chinese market with the Avatr 11 crossover, and today the Avatr 12 platform sedan debuted at the Munich Motor Show , which caused the envy of many European automakers.
The Avatr 12 has a cool pro-European design and cutting-edge tech stuff. Avatr 12 does not have a rear window, it is partially replaced by a panoramic glass roof with an area of 2.57 m2 that extends to the stern — for the first time we saw such a solution on the Swedish Polestar 5 sedan, only Polestar 5 will become serial at best in 2025, while Avatr 12 will go into production literally tomorrow.

3/3Avatr 12 is positioned by the manufacturer as a Gran Coupe, but in fact it is a sedan or fastback (sedan with a sloping stern): the trunk is isolated from the passenger compartment by default, but it can be increased by folding the rear seat backs. On the front, the Avatr 12 has an additional trunk in which it is convenient to store the charging cable. A retractable spoiler is integrated into the main trunk lid.

2/3 p>In front of the windshield, the Avatr 12 has the so-called Halo Screen — a light panel of 10,500 cells from which you can add welcome inscriptions and pictures. Doors with retractable handles have frameless glass. 29 artificial vision organs (including three lidars), which are necessary for the operation of a full-fledged autopilot, are organically introduced into the body, but autopilots of level 3 and above have not yet been legalized in China. Limited use of Level 3 autopilots is already allowed in Germany, the US and Japan.
Overall length Avatr 12 — 5020 mm, width — 1999 mm, height — 1450 mm, wheelbase — 3020 mm. Regular wheels — 20- or 21-inch. Curb weight — 2180-2300 kg, depending on equipment. Avatr 12 will have an adjustable air suspension in the “base”, the front one will be on double wishbones, the rear one will be multi-link. In the twin-engine all-wheel drive version, the front electric motor produces 195 kW (265 hp) and 280 Nm, the rear — 230 kW (313 hp) and 370 Nm, the maximum total output of the power plant — 425 kW (578 hp) and 650 Nm. The top speed of both versions is limited to 200 km/h. The battery capacity of both versions is 94.5 kWh, the range on a single charge is 650-700 km on the CLTC cycle.

The interior of the Avatr 12 is completely original, with the Avatr 11 crossover it has only a common style in common. The laconic front panel is two-tiered: on the upper tier there is a wide but narrow 35.4-inch 4K display, part of which is used as a dashboard. Small screens adjoin the edges of this screen, acting as rear-view mirrors. On the lower tier of the front panel there is a multimedia touch screen with a diagonal of 15.6 inches. The operating system is, of course, the latest HarmonyOS 4.0 from Huawei. The central tunnel is two-story, on the top floor, finished with natural wood, there is a wireless charging tray for two smartphones. The front seats with «zero gravity» are equipped with retractable leg rests. The standard audio system has 27 loudspeakers. A cozy atmosphere in the cabin, in addition, creates a 64-color LED backlight and branded air fresheners (three to choose from).

The Avatr 12 will hit the home market before the end of this year, prices have not yet been announced. Next year, the Avatr brand will go beyond China and appear in Europe as well. In Russia, the Avatr 11 crossover is now being sold with might and main by gray dealers, and we have already traveled on it. The official launch of Avatr in our country, apparently, is also not far off — in July, the Changan representative office in the Russian Federation brought the Avatr 11 crossover to the Innoprom-2023 exhibition in Yekaterinburg.
