Stellantis is developing a new generation of Lancia Ypsilon: the first image

The Italian premium brand is gearing up for its return to the big European market with a new Lancia launch scheduled for 2024.

The Lancia brand is part of the auto giant Stellantis. Despite the fact that the products of the Italian brand today are represented by only one model, and it is sold only in the home market, the concern decided to leave Lancia in service. Recall that the only model remains the Ypsilon five-door hatchback, which has been produced since 1995. Since then, it has only changed its generation twice, the current model appeared in 2011, and it experienced the last major update in 2021. Now the manufacturer is developing the next generation Ypsilon.

It is known that the novelty will appear in the spring of 2024, and in its appearance borrowings from the Lancia Pu + Ra HPE concept, which was introduced in April of this year, will be noticeable. The company has already released several prototypes of the future novelty, but they have not yet come across to photo spies: the manufacturer keeps the appearance of the next generation Lancia Ypsilon a secret. The designer of the Spanish publication Motor.es offers his own version of the potential exterior of the future model. This car is expected to bring the brand back to the big European market.

It is assumed that the length of the new generation Ypsilon will be about four meters, and its profile will be similar to the Peugeot 208. At the same time, the front and rear of the Italian premium hatchback will be completely new. Judging by the render, the novelty will have a large black cap on the front, on which you can see the luminous brand name, as well as integrated thin strips of running lights. Below are the main blocks of headlights of an unusual shape, at the very bottom there is a large air intake with a pattern in the form of small horizontally elongated cells and a pair of round foglights on the sides.

The car also has a black top, the same color of the pillars and side mirror housings — this creates an effect floating roof. It is assumed that the stern will be decorated with round lights, and the interior will be equipped with a modern infotainment system and several digital displays.

Lancia Ypsilon next generation will have several options for «stuffing». So, in the list of modifications, a variant with a mild-hybrid installation is expected, which will be based on a three-cylinder gasoline turbo engine, working in tandem with a 48-volt “electric weight”. The hatchback will also have an all-electric version, which is likely to share equipment with the Peugeot e-208: we are talking about a single 156-horsepower electric motor, as well as a 51 kWh traction battery; note that the «Frenchman» has a maximum range without recharging is 400 km.

Recall that in the future Lancia is not going to be limited to one model. According to the brand's plans, in 2026 there will be an all-electric crossover, which will probably be named Aurelia, and in 2028 a new Delta will be introduced (the model will also be «green»).
