South London Council threatens to fine Sadiq Khan ultra-low mobile vans emissions (Ulez) if they continue to violate parking rules in the area.
The London Borough of Bromley has responded to reports that Transport for London (TfL) mobile vehicles have been deployed to identify parking violations. Ulez offenders are parking on the verges of the borough, warning them of a £130 fine if they continue to do so.
Nicholas Bennett, executive board member for transport, highways and road safety, said » It is not acceptable to park on the pavement or verge» and its officers will issue TfL with penalty notices if they find parking violations.
The warnings come as the mayor deployed around 20 mobile Ulez camera vans across the capital in response to a wave of attacks on the Ulez infrastructure in connection with the start of expansion.
The vans are designed to fill holes where possible. lack of permanent Ulez cameras, including where they have been removed by vandals.
Last week, police reported that 288 crimes against Ulez cameras were reported in August alone, almost double the number in previous years four months.
Selected crowdsourced data from the team known as Julie's Map. suggested Bromley is the area worst affected by vandalism, with more than 80 per cent of cameras removed or damaged.
In a document published at the same time as the cameras were deployed, TfL said it would move vans to areas where cameras had not been installed or were not operational.
Bromley Council has since said it has received a number of reports of these vehicles being parked in prohibited areas, particularly on lawns throughout the borough.

Claire. Bennett said: «Drivers will know not to park on the sidewalk or shoulder of the road unless, as in some cases, there is an exception that is clearly shown on roadside signs.
«If our law enforcement officers see van parked on the side of the road, we will issue a penalty notice, whether it's TfL or anyone else, including if they operate Ulez cameras or anything else.»
He also warned against parking these vehicles on roadways or under restrictions such as yellow lines. However, it said that in some cases there were exceptions for these vehicles when parking in these areas.
Councillors are now urging Bromley residents to report any TfL vans they see parked on the roadside to the council .< /p>
Simon Fawthrop, Bromley councilor, told the Telegraph: “We are not obliged to make it easy for Mr Khan and TfL to expand Ulez, we do not intend to be passive in allowing him to impose this unfair tax on many of our residents and visitors.
“I would urge any resident who spots a TfL camera van on the roadside to report it to Bromley Traffic Control immediately so we can issue them a parking ticket.”
A TfL spokesman said: “As an authority Highways Authority, TfL supports the City's use of Highways Authority powers to enforce parking rules in unauthorized areas.”
But he added that no vehicle monitoring Ulez mobile cameras was parked illegally. in Bromley
The mayor expanded Ulez's zone to cover all 32 London boroughs last Tuesday. Under the new rules, people who drive cars that don't meet certain emissions standards will be forced to pay a daily charge of £12.50 or fined up to £180 for non-payment.
The new charging zone has sparked widespread opposition from politicians, residents and local authorities, including Bromley.
The council was one of five councils that took legal action against the mayor in an attempt to stop the expansion.
The five councils, which also included Harrow, Hillingdon, Bexley and Surrey, lost the judicial review after a judge rejected three claims challenging the implementation of Ulez's decision.

TfL also said on Friday that it had not yet sent out widespread fines to drivers of non-compliant vehicles, instead opting to send warning letters to those who had not paid the fine.
A TfL spokesman said: “In the same way as was done during the rollout of previous Ulez schemes, we have used our discretion in the early stages of the expansion.
“Owners of non-compliant vehicles who were found driving in this zone have now started receiving enforcement letters reminding them that the zone has now been expanded and that they will have to pay a fee in the future if the vehicle continues to be used in this zone.
