This week, spy photographers first spotted a Nissan Murano in a new body during testing. What will it be like?
The mid-size Murano crossover, named after one of the Italian islands, was first introduced in 2002. Initially, the model was designed only for the North American market, but already in 2004, official European sales of the SUV began. Today, the third generation of Murano is already on the assembly line, the official premiere of which took place in the spring of 2014 at the International Auto Show in New York, and at the end of 2018 the model underwent a slight restyling. Now this is one of the oldest models in the company’s range, and until recently it was unclear whether a new generation was planned at all. However, spy photos that appeared a few days ago make it clear that there will be a successor.

The crossover as a whole will retain its usual proportions, while the design will be completely new and made in the style of the brand’s new SUVs, including the Nissan Ariya electric crossover, which appeared three years ago. There will be a similar design of the front part with a trapezoidal radiator grille, visually combined with elements of head optics. Contrary to the general automotive trend, Murano will retain traditional door handles; you can also note the original flowing stampings on the sidewalls. The rear pillars are designed in the style of the aforementioned Ariya, which will make the roof contrasting. The lights will be made into a single strip across the entire width of the stern, while the license plate niche (a first for Murano) will move to the rear bumper. The prototypes in the spy photos do not have a windshield wiper on the rear window, most likely it will be located under the spoiler.

There is no confirmed information about technical features yet, but there is a possibility that the crossover will retain the D platform, which is used for front-wheel drive D-class cars and some all-wheel drive mid-size crossovers from Nissan and Infiniti. The engine may also remain the same with minor modernization and higher performance (the current 3.5 V6 produces 249 hp and 325 Nm), while the transmission will be radically updated: the CVT will be replaced by a 9-speed automatic transmission.
