The updated five-door of the German brand will reach dealers in the European market next year. Now prototypes of the refreshed Golf are at the road testing stage.
The German manufacturer has been producing the Volkswagen Golf since 1974; over the past years, this global model, popular in many countries around the world, has managed to change generations several times. The current eighth generation hatchback debuted in the fall of 2019, and now the company is actively developing the updated Golf, which, according to the plan, should go on sale in Europe in 2024.

So far, the future new product is at the testing stage. Photo spies once again caught a prototype of the refreshed hatchback during testing, this time the car is being driven on public roads in the southern part of the Old World, and in the new batch of pictures the future Golf is practically devoid of camouflage. Colleagues from the Spanish publication Motor.es shared photos with it.
The publication noted that the remains of the camouflage film can only be seen on the sides of the lower part of the large air intake, and also, partially, on the rear lights. Judging by the pictures, as part of the restyling, the Volkswagen Golf will be equipped with head optics of a corrected shape with a modified pattern, as well as other bumpers. Thus, in the lower part of the front there is a differently designed large air intake, and the rear has been refreshed with another diffuser with a silver decorative edging.
This time the interior was not captured by the spy photographer. It is expected that the refreshed Golf will receive a redesigned interior, the new product will still have a large digital instrument panel (the current version of the five-door has a diagonal of 10.25 inches) and, perhaps, the touchscreen of the multimedia system will become larger (now the diagonal varies between versions — in for initial versions it is 8.25 inches, for richer versions it is 10 inches). Physical buttons may return to the steering wheel, replacing touch ones.
There is no official information about the “filling” of the restyled Volkswagen Golf yet. According to preliminary data, the refreshed Golf will not have versions with a manual transmission, only a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission with two clutches will remain. In addition, it is expected that all the model’s engines will be electrified to some extent: mild hybrid versions with a 48-volt electric power supply, as well as plug-in hybrids are expected.
Recall that the eighth generation Golf is based on the modernized MQB platform. The range of the current car includes: petrol three-cylinder 1.0 TSI with a power of 90 or 110 hp. and a four-cylinder 1.5 TSI (130 or 150 hp), as well as a 2.0 TDI diesel (115 or 150 hp). The current model also has three MHEV versions and a pair of eHybrid rechargeable hybrids, which are based on the 1.4 TSI (204 and 245 hp).
It is not yet clear what kind of technology the “charged” hatchback will have. Note that the previously presented limited-edition Volkswagen Golf R 333 has a 2.0-liter turbo engine with a power of 333 hp under the hood, its maximum torque is 420 Nm; this engine is paired with a 7DSG. The hot hatch takes 4.6 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h, and its top speed is 270 km/h.
