The “charged” Lada Granta has returned to the market: now the liftback also has a sports version

Such cars of the Russian brand differ from “regular” four- and five-door cars due to the forced engine and sporty chassis settings.

The official conversion of standard Ladas into “charged” ones is carried out by the Lada Sport company. It is a subsidiary of AVTOVAZ, located in the city of Tolyatti (Samara region). Let us remember that for five years from 2013, “warmed up” Granta Sport sedans were produced here, and after the restyling that the family experienced in 2018, the sports modification disappeared. Now AVTOVAZ has talked about the return of the “charged” version, and in two body types — sedan and liftback.

“Heated” versions of Granta are equipped with a standard 1.6-liter gasoline engine, which has been boosted to 118 hp. Let us remember that the pre-reform sports Grant had the same engine. AVTOVAZ noted that Lada Sport has made changes to the intake and exhaust system, fuel system, gas distribution mechanism, and also reprogrammed the engine controller. The direct-flow exhaust system is said to provide reduced drag and a “sporty engine sound during spirited acceleration.”

The “warmed up” Lada Granta sedan and liftback received sporty chassis settings. The suspension is lowered by 20 mm; due to the lower center of gravity, the maximum speed when moving in an arc has increased. The manufacturer also explained that a different shock absorber setting ensures “stable contact of the wheel with the road surface,” and soft tires, tested in motorsports, provide a larger contact patch with the road and maintain controllability on cold and wet asphalt.

AVTOVAZ noted that the “charged” Ladas were equipped with high-performance disc brakes on both axles. This kit allows you, if necessary, to confidently slow down from high speeds, and also, as noted in the company’s press center, such brakes are less prone to overheating.

You can visually distinguish the sports versions of the four- and five-door Grants by different bumpers, sills and the design of the trunk lid. The manufacturer said that the body kit was tested in the AVTOVAZ wind tunnel: judging by the results, it helps to optimally distribute lift across the axles and reduce the lift coefficient by about 45%.

The interior also has its share of differences: for example, the Lada Granta Sport sedan and hatchback received a contrasting finish with red decorative elements, and the steering wheel with red zero mark – leather braid. The same bright color is used to decorate the instrument panel. The front seats of Granta sports cars have pronounced lateral support.

The Granta Sport equipment list includes air conditioning, heated seats and exterior mirrors, an ABS system, a pair of front airbags, an audio system and a number of other options. Today, the recommended retail price of a “charged” sedan is 1,249,900 rubles, and the purchase of a “heated” liftback will cost at least 1,289,900 rubles; car sales have already started.
