Charity, linked Regulator investigates NHS chaplain after sending delegation to meet Taliban

The Charity Commission said it was launching a regulatory investigation into Human Aid & Promoting a trip last month during which imams visited the Afghan regime and praised the leaders.

During the trip, the delegates met with Taliban Foreign Minister Mullah Amir Khan Muttaqi and visited places around Kabul.

The Taliban said when it came to power it would allow women to study and work, but has since suppressed rights women, banning girls' high schools and then banning women from Kabul parks.

Delegates included National Health Service chaplain Suliman Ghani

Delegates included Suliman Ghani, an NHS chaplain who sits on the charity's board of Islamic scholars, who said he was «very impressed» by the Taliban government.

«Afghanistan is now prosperous in the sense that there is peace here… I think this is the most critical point for the people living in Afghanistan.”

Afghan television reported that the group met with the «minister of vice and virtue» and that the visiting clerics «wanted to see the Taliban government with their own eyes» and found that the Western media portrayal was «different from reality.»

The charity described the trip as a «mission Fact Finding»

Human Aid & Advocacy described the trip as a «fact-finding mission» and said it took part in «a series of meetings between scientists and Afghan officials.»

“Muslim leaders traveled from the UK to better understand the humanitarian needs of the Afghan people and to witness some of the ongoing aid projects set up by Human Aid & Propaganda in the country.»

The charity added: «Human help and assistance; Human rights activism continues to call for the lifting of sanctions that are collectively punishing the Afghan people.»

Noor Chowdhury, the charity's chairwoman, said in a video from Afghanistan after the Taliban took power: «Thank God the country is now free» and attended an event earlier this month where speakers praised the Taliban.

New questions over This will be the third time the charity commission has reviewed Human Aid & Propaganda activities.

Investigation of the event in 2013.

In 2013, the company was investigated over allegations that it co-organized an event that featured speakers with «controversial and/or extremist» views, and due diligence was found to have revealed mismanagement. .

Six years later, he was re-investigated and restrictions were placed on sending funds abroad. The commission's 2021 report said a non-profit organization with which the charity worked with police was believed to have been used to support al-Qaeda associates in Syria.

The report said the charity transferred £246,000 to the organization between February and July 2018, but the relationship did not continue after the charity became aware of the regulator's concerns.

The charity did not received government grants but received more than £300,000 in gift aid from HMRC. .

Human assistance and strengthening; Propaganda activities should be deprived of charitable status.

Charlotte Littlewood, an expert on extremism at the International Center for Sustainable Development, said Human Aid & Propaganda activities should be stripped of their charitable status.

“Organizations appear to be becoming increasingly outspoken in recent times, reflecting the spread of extremist ideas seen on social media platforms.”

“ The Taliban may be in power now, but they are still a terrorist regime that deprives women of their rights and enforces strict Sharia law. I welcome the Charity Commission's investigation, swift and decisive action is needed to stop the worrying trend that is attracting young Muslims in the UK.»

A Charity Commission spokesman said: «We are aware of reports of human assistance and empowerment; Advocacy and, as a result, have opened a compliance case for further assessment.»

Compliance cases are not formal investigations, but allow the regulator to conduct further investigations and look for errors and weaknesses in management.
