The German company is preparing a restyling for its compact fashion model, as evidenced by fresh spy photos published online the other day. What will the new product look like?
The first and only generation 2 Series Gran Coupe sedan was first introduced in October 2019. It became the smallest sedan in the BMW range in all markets except Mexico and China, where the four-door 1 Series (F52 body) is also sold. Now the car is preparing for restyling, which, judging by the available spy photos, will be quite significant.

New headlights will appear at the front: they will become narrower and have a simpler shape compared to the current ones, as well as original graphics of LED running lights in the form of a pair of vertical segments in each. The updated 1 Series hatchback, which is also currently undergoing testing, will be equipped with similar front optics. There will probably be a new front bumper design; we presented one of the possible options in the current style of the company. The grille will likely retain its shape, but may receive a new finish. The most interesting changes are expected at the rear: there will be a new trunk lid with a higher-mounted license plate niche, making the rear visually a little less heavy. The headlights will change slightly in shape and will receive new graphics for the dimensions — vertical elements can be seen in the spy photos, echoing the new front optics. In addition, the test samples have four round exhaust pipes.

The second series Gran Coupe is built on the front-wheel drive UKL2 platform, which is also used by the 1 Series, 2 Series Active Tourer, X1/X2 crossovers and Mini models. The car is equipped with three- and four-cylinder engines with a volume of 1.5 and 2.0 liters, respectively, and they can be either gasoline or diesel. Basic versions are equipped with front-wheel drive, and the sedan can also be equipped with xDrive all-wheel drive transmission. The top version of the M235i with a petrol turbocharged 2.0 develops 306 hp, like other engines, it may receive a slight increase in power after restyling. In addition, there is a possibility of a plug-in hybrid.
