European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald believes his side are taking inspiration from the brilliant fight that saw Europe retain the Solheim Cup on Sunday.
Suzanne Pettersen's team lost the opening session 4-0 at Finke Cortesin but bounced back . secure the first 14–14 draw in the history of the biennial competition and, as holders, retain control of the trophy.
A similar result from Marco Simone would not have been enough to lift Donald's side to the Ryder Cup after a record defeat at Whistling Straits two years ago, but the spirit shown in Spain did not go unnoticed by the captain or his players.
Meanwhile, Ryder Cup players are told not to interfere with Just Stop Oil protesters as a “significant” Italian police operation begins in Rome. Read more about this story here.

Italy will host the 44th Ryder Cup for the first time in its history.
The venue will be the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club near Rome, which previously hosted the Italian Open. For a more in-depth look at the 18 holes, we've put together a detailed hole guide.
Italian players worthy of representing Europe include Constantino Rocca and the Molinari brothers, Francesco and Eduardo.
Seven of the last eight matches have been won by the home team, with the exception of the Miracle in Medina » in 2012, when Europe recovered from 10–4 to claim a remarkable victory.
Nine members of Team USA recently made a scouting trip to Marco Simone, seeking their first win on European soil since 1993, but many of the European team have competed in the Italian Open at this venue for the past three years with Robert McIntyre. (2022) and Nikolaj Hojgaard (2021), who won the title.
How to watch on TV?
NBC is a broadcaster in America where viewers will either have to stay up late or wake up very early to catch the Friday and Saturday morning shows. When the Ryder Cup was played in France five years ago, play began at 2:10 a.m. ET, with afternoon sessions beginning at a more civilized 7:50 a.m. ET.
Viewers in the UK won't have to worry about such concerns as Sky Sports will have exclusive live coverage. In 2018, the first matches started at 7:10 am BST. Click here for details on how to watch the Ryder Cup.
What is the Ryder Cup?
The Ryder Cup, one of the most popular sporting events in the world, is distinguished by the fact that it brings together participants in an individual sport in a team environment. Besides the golf, the team dynamics and relationships made for exciting viewing.
Amateur golfer and businessman Samuel Ryder conceived a match between British and American professionals in which the first Ryder Cup would be played in Massachusetts. 1927
Until 1977, the match was played between the USA and Great Britain or Great Britain and Ireland.
After nine US wins and one draw in 10 meetings, Jack Nicklaus wrote a letter to Lord Derby (then president of the British PGA), suggesting that Great Britain and Ireland team up with continental Europe to make the Ryder Cup more competitive.
By the mid-eighties, the Ryder Cup became much more intense and dramatic, and the extravaganza we know today was born.
Who are the Ryder Cup captains?
Europe will be led by Luke Donald, who replaced Henrik Stenson last year after the Swede was stripped of the title due to his move to LIV Golf. Team USA is captained by 2007 Masters champion Zach Johnson.
Who's on the teams? Team Europe
Six players qualified automatically – the top three players on the European points list and the next three players on the world points list. The qualifying period ended on September 3rd.
The top six European players are (from the European points list) Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Robert McIntyre. and (from the world points list) Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton and Matt Fitzpatrick.
Of the six wildcards, Luke Donald chose Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka, Shane Lowry, Nikolaj Hojgaard and Ludwig Aberg.
European golfers competing on the LIV Golf Tour were not permitted to compete on the LIV Golf Tour. qualify for the Ryder Cup. This is because European Ryder Cup players must be members of the DP World Tour (formerly known as the European Tour), and those players who signed up for LIV were forced to give up their places on the DP World Tour.

Like Europe, America uses the six-plus-six method for team selection, with six players automatically qualifying and Captain Johnson selecting the remaining six himself.
The six automatic qualifiers were : Scotty Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Max Homa, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.
< p>But unlike Donald, Johnson was allowed to choose from the ranks of LIV. He chose Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Sam Burnsand Rickie Fowler as wildcards.
Ryder Cup: Comparing the Two Teams Why aren't Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and other LIV golfers playing in the Ryder Cup?
To be eligible to qualify for the European Ryder Cup team, players must hold DP World Tour membership, which Garcia, Westwood and Ian Poulter renounced earlier this year.
European golfers who joined the breakaway LIV Tour have been locked in a long-running legal dispute with the Tour over the latter's ability to sanction them for moving to Saudi Arabia.
Earlier this year it was ruled that the Tour could punish LIV players, with fines totaling up to £100,000 each as well as a three-tournament ban in some cases.
Poulter led efforts to appeal the decision, but when the Tour's ability to impose sanctions was confirmed, he, along with other leading European LIV players, decided to surrender his tour card and thus give up his right to play in the Ryder Cup. .
Ryder Cup players ordered not to attack Just Stop Oil protesters

Event organizers have informed all staff of the possibility of creating an environmental sabotage group similar to the Green invasions at the Open in Hoylake.
Just Stop Oil refused to tell Telegraph Sport whether it was planning a strike, but subsidiaries staged environmental protests in the Italian capital this summer.
Major sporting events have been in constant dialogue since the spring, exchanging information about potential actions. After Jonny Bairstow clashed with a protester at Lord's during the second Ashes Test, athletes and staff are routinely urged not to take matters into their own hands.

In July, American Billy Horschel ignored R&A warnings not to intervene when he blocked a running woman with orange powder at Royal Liverpool.
However, Europe captain Luke Donald confirmed that players and caddies should not do so. “engage” if similar scenes occur this week at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club. “The guys will be told not to interact with the guys, let the security handle it, and then we will continue,” he said.
Italian police in uniform and plainclothes patrol the highway, but with 150 hectares of countryside, security is a daunting prospect. In Aintree earlier this year, Animal Rising struck the Grand National stadium, which has a similarly large outer perimeter, after easily breaching the outer fences. There were also numerous protests at Wimbledon and the Open, with Just Stop Oil using increasingly innovative tactics to evade security checks.
While Just Stop Oil could be accused of hypocrisy if its activists travel from the UK to protest, Italian police are already pulling stunts from other associated environmental groups in Rome. In May, seven activists from the Ultima Generazione (“Last Generation”) movement climbed into the Trevi Fountain in Rome and poured diluted charcoal into the water to turn it black. Sources close to the event noted that Italian officers have a reputation for taking a «no-nonsense» approach to crowd control.
Why was Brooks Koepka chosen?
A key difference for Team USA is that eligibility for the Ryder Cup is not tied to the PGA Tour, but rather to membership in the PGA of America, the organizers of the USPGA.
Koepka and other LIV golfers in the United States are not allowed to play on the PGA Tour, but they can still earn ranking points by playing in the four majors.
Despite winning the USPGA and finishing second at the Masters, Koepka did not automatically qualify for Team USA, but he — and other LIV golfers — retained eligibility for the Ryder Cup through his continued membership in the PGA of America.

Most golf tournaments, such as the Masters and Open Championship, are stroke play, where every shot matters and the player with the lowest score after winning 72 holes.
The Ryder Cup is a match game, meaning players compete individually or in pairs against their opponents rather than on the field. The pair or player with the lowest score wins the hole. For example, if Europe records a four on the first hole and the United States records a five, Europe will come out one higher. If the score changes in the second match, the match will be tied again and so on.
The match is won if the advantage exceeds the number of holes remaining. If it ends up completely square, the match is split in half.
There are two teams of 12 people. On Friday there are four fourball matches in the morning and four fourball matches in the afternoon. This is repeated on Saturday. This means that four players from each team sit out each session, and the team captain selects the pairings and decides who to eliminate. There may be different pairs for each format.
The only time all 24 players are on the field is on Sunday «singles», when they face each other in 12 straight matches.
Winning a match earns your team a point, and half a match earns each team half a point. For complete information about the format, click here.
Those who are good at math will understand that there are 28 points on offer, so both teams are aiming for 14 and a half points to win the Ryder Cup. In a 14-14 tie, the holders will retain the trophy (that is, the USA in this case)
