The new Skoda Kodiaq appeared in official sketches during the premiere week

The world premiere of the second generation Skoda Kodiaq crossover will not take place in September, as previously reported, but on October 4. Today, another dose of teasers in the form of design sketches has been published, showing the key features of the exterior of the new product.

We know almost everything about the new Kodiaq: in June, Skoda revealed its main technical characteristics (five power plants are announced, including one plug-in hybrid), the interior was declassified in August, today we are looking at sketches of the exterior, and on October 4, the second-generation crossover will finally be shown in full detail, although for us Russians, this model is now of only speculative interest — official deliveries will not be, the place of the Skoda brand in our market is rapidly being taken by proliferating Chinese brands.

In China, by the way, no one needs the Skoda brand without any sanctions: sales are falling, from January to August of this year the Czech the brand, according to CAAM (China Association of Automobile Manufacturers), sold only 16,308 cars here, which is 49.4% less than in the same period in 2022. The main sales market for the Skoda Kodiaq has been and will remain its native Europe.

Judging by the sketches, there will be no radical changes in the design of the Kodiak: the double-decker headlights (they were promised a matrix “filling” of the second generation) and squared wheel arches will be retained. The taillights are still positioned horizontally and are now connected by a luminous strip. As an option, according to today's press release from Skoda, a dark finish for the D-pillars in front of the tailgate will be offered; such a finish visually lightens the profile of the crossover. The diameter of standard wheels is from 17 to 20 inches.

There are much more innovations in the interior: as we learned from the August announcement, the “second” Kodiak will have a rather unique shape of the front panel, vaguely reminiscent of a dumbbell. The instrument panel is completely virtual, 10-inch, it does not have a top sun visor, but has two side ones. Free-standing multimedia screen — 13-inch. The automatic transmission selector has taken the place of the right steering column lever (there will be no versions with manual transmission in the new generation), and control of the wipers has been moved to the left steering column lever. Multifunctional washers of the Skoda Smart Dials system are located under the central air ducts; they manage the microclimate, audio system, navigation and driving modes. The center tunnel, stripped of all unnecessary elements, offers a wide tray with wireless charging for two smartphones.
