The Mirafiori plant has two assembly lines and produces the new Fiat 500 and four Maserati models. Maserati cars produced at the plant, — These include the large Levante SUV, the large Granturismo coupe, and the large Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans.
Both lines will be stopped, affecting 2,400 employees who will be temporarily laid off.
This year, Fiat planned to build about 100,000 Fiat 500 cars at the Mirafiori plant. According to the FIM trade union, 47,000 vehicles were produced in the first half of the year, which is 21 percent more than for the same period last year.
Demand for electric vehicles in Europe is slowing amid rising electricity prices and inflation, as well as consumer concerns about charging infrastructure and range batteries. Industry analysts expect electric vehicle sales in Europe to slow until the end of the year. Next year they will remain at the same level and will return to rapid growth only after 2025.
