Nissan Dayz compacts caught up with Pathfinder and Serena after restyling

The appearance of the kei cars was adjusted in accordance with the current corporate style of the brand, the cars also received new equipment. In addition, special versions will be offered to customers.

Related compacts Nissan Dayz and Mitsubishi eK of the current generation debuted in 2019; they are produced by the joint venture NMKV (Nissan Mitsubishi Kei Vehicle). The time has come for a planned restyling, and the Nissan family is presented first. By the way, at one time, models of the previous generation caused a fuel scandal, which ultimately led to the Mitsubishi company joining the Renault-Nissan alliance (responsible for the production of Mitsubishi cars underestimated their fuel consumption). But let's return to the updated Nissan kei car.

As before, the hatch is presented in two versions — standard and “youth”, the latter is called Dayz Highway Star. Both modifications have acquired a new radiator grille: the mesh and massive V-shaped chrome insert are no longer there, instead there are now thin and partially shiny lines, and the “youth” five-door has more such elements, and they are lined up — like the Nissan Serena minivan and Chinese crossover Nissan Pathfinder. The Dayz Highway Star compact also received a new front bumper, in addition, the palette of body colors and the range of wheels were expanded.

The front panel in the cabin has been improved: the tray on the passenger side has become deeper, plus the cup holder now has a “flap” that prevents it from tipping over. Well, in some trim levels the finishing materials were replaced. The list of equipment was supplemented by a heated steering wheel and a warning system for detecting other cars behind (including when the Dayz itself moves backward). The auto braking system has also been improved. Finally, LED headlights are now available not only on the expensive Dayz Highway Star, but also on “just” Dayz in the second-oldest trim level.

At the same time, special versions are presented — Bolero for a regular kei car and Urban Chrome for a “youth” one. The features of the first option are white wheels, a roof, door handles and exterior mirror housings, combined upholstery (fabric + “soft leather”). The Dayz Highway Star Urban Chrome has darkened chrome, original design wheels, silver mirror caps and water-repellent seat upholstery.

The technology is the same. The compacts are equipped with a 660 cc naturally aspirated engine with a power of 52 hp, and there is also a turbo version with 64 hp. A starter-generator is also provided, which produces 2.7 hp. and helps in the first seconds of acceleration. Kei cars are equipped with a CVT, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The updated family will reach Japanese dealers at the end of the year, but prices have already been announced. The regular Nissan Dayz costs from $9,600, the Dayz Highway Star will cost at least $11,400.

Meanwhile, Nissan Dayz became a donor for the Nissan Sakura electric car. But the “green” kei car debuted only last year, so it is not yet eligible for restyling.
