A man has been charged with murder in the 1996 drive-by shooting death of rapper Tupac Shakur, a long-awaited breakthrough in a case that has frustrated investigators and captivated the public.
A Nevada grand jury has indicted Dwayne «Keff D» Davis on one count of murder with a deadly weapon, Clark County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Mark DiGiacomo said in court Friday.
The charges were unsealed hours after Davis, 60, was arrested Friday morning while walking near his home in Henderson, a Las Vegas suburb, DiGiacomo said.
Clark denied Davis bail. pledge. County District Judge Jerry Wiese.
He is the uncle of Orlando Anderson—one of Tupac's well-known rivals—whom authorities have long suspected in the rapper's death.
Mr. Davis has long been known to investigators and confessed himself in interviews and in his tell-all 2019 memoir, “The Compton Legend.” Street» that he was in the Cadillac where a drive-by shooting erupted in September 1996. Shakur was 25 when he was shot.

The arrest came two months after Las Vegas police raided his wife's home in nearby Henderson. The documents say police were looking for items «related to the murder of Tupac Shakur.»
Police said they seized several computers, a cellphone and hard drive, a Vibe magazine featuring Shakur, several .40-caliber bullets, two «tubs of photographs» and a copy of Davis' tell-all 2019 memoir.
< p>In the book Davis said he broke his silence on the 2010 killing of Tupac during a closed-door meeting with federal and local authorities. He was 46 years old at the time and facing life in prison on drug charges when he agreed to talk to authorities.
“They promised to destroy the indictment and stop the grand jury if I helped them. he wrote.
He described himself as one of the last living witnesses to the shooting.
Shakur was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas Strip on the Night of September 7, 1996 of the year. The rapper was driving a BMW driven by Death Row Records founder Marion «Suge» Knight in a convoy of about 10 cars. They were waiting at a red light when a white Cadillac pulled up next to them and the shooting began.
Shakur was shot several times and died a week later.
