Chery Tiggo 8 crossover: simplification amid update

We are talking about a Chinese SUV with an almost original design, that is, without the Pro and Plus prefixes. This cross has acquired a new modification, at the same time the model has lost a powerful version with a display in the cabin.

The three-row crossover Chery Tiggo 8 debuted in 2018, since then the “eight” has been turned into a separate family: it has many options that differ in design and technology. So, in their native China, the most “prestigious” versions carry the prefixes Plus and Pro, and in Russia there are still rich all-wheel drive modifications with a double “surname” — Pro Max. Meanwhile, the company also does not forget about the “simple” Tiggo 8: a modified SUV has just been presented in its homeland. As usual, the refreshed G8 has been given a separate name – Honor Edition.

The crossover's appearance has been slightly corrected: the radiator grille has lost its chrome, it is now completely black, and the decorative plate supporting the head optics is also made in the same color. The headlights themselves were also darkened. In addition, the body of the Chery Tiggo 8 Honor Edition can be painted in a “cloud gray” shade. Here, in fact, are all the new things.

The modernized crossover is available with one engine – a 1.5 TCI petrol turbo-four that produces 156 hp. and 230 Nm. The engine is combined with a six-speed manual or a six-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches, front-wheel drive only.

Chery Tiggo 8 Honor Edition is offered in only two trim levels. Both have 18-inch wheels, LED optics, a panoramic sunroof, a leather interior, separate instrument and multimedia system screens (7 inches and 10.25 inches, respectively), climate control, heated front seats, all-round cameras and Cruise control. The more expensive version also has atmospheric lighting and an electric tailgate. The SUV can have five or seven seats.

The price of the Tiggo 8 Honor Edition with 6-speed manual gearbox is 109,000 yuan (about 1,527,000 rubles at the current exchange rate), the crossover with 6DCT costs 119,900 yuan (1,666,000 rubles).

In China they still sell the original “eight”, that is, the 2018 model, such a crossover today is equipped with the same 1.5 TCI engine in combination with a 6-speed manual gearbox and 6DCT (from 97,800 yuan or 1,359,000 rubles). But the Kunpeng Edition version, which acquired a scoreboard last year, is excluded from the range: along with this version, the “simple” Tiggo 8 also lost the pair 1.6 TGDI (197 hp) + 7DCT.

Well As for Russia, our “regular” crossover Chery Tiggo 8 is today available in a single configuration with a 147-horsepower 1.5T and a six-speed “robot” at a price of 3,109,900 rubles (excluding discounts and promotions).
