The Hyper HT crossover was developed as an analogue of the Tesla Model X, but will cost at the same level as the more compact Tesla Model Y.
In 2018, the Chinese state-owned automaker GAC launched the now very successful electric car sub-brand Aion, and last year it got a premium wing with the Hyper prefix, and a new emblem in the form of a checkmark on top of a diamond. Since launching its first model, the fastback GT, Hyper has grown into its own sports brand within the GAC Group and now has its own consumer website. Electric cars of the Aion line are also sold through their website, but for now they still carry the GAC corporate logo. It turns out that Hyper with the new logo has become more independent than the Aion that gave birth to it – such are somersaults of Chinese management.
This week, Hyper launched the flagship supercar SSR with a three-engine 1225-horsepower power plant – it became the second model of the new brand (in fact, the first, since the SSR was introduced earlier than the fastback GT, but went into production later) . Hyper SSR will definitely not be widespread due to its too high price and manual assembly, but the third model – the Hyper HT crossover – is destined to become a sales locomotive.
The premiere of the Hyper HT is expected in November, and pre-orders will begin at the same time. In the meantime, the newly minted sports brand has published sketches of the upcoming new product, which show lifting rear doors of the “gull wing” type, like the Tesla Model X. Meanwhile, back in September, the Hyper HT surfaced in the electronic database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry, but there is nothing said about the rear miracle doors and they are not in the photographs – perhaps they will be a privilege for the top versions. The Hyper GT fastback and the Hyper SSR supercar, we recall, have butterfly-wing doors, that is, the unusual door kinematics become a signature feature of the Hyper brand.
The Ministry of Industry database lists some characteristics of the Hyper HT: overall length – 4935 mm, width – 1920 mm, height – 1700 mm, wheelbase – 2935 mm. In terms of dimensions, the Hyper HT is close to the Tesla Model X, but will have a strictly five-seater interior (the Model X has a seven-seater interior). The curb weight of the Hyper HT is 2120-2220 kg, depending on the modification, the total weight is 2680 kg. Standard wheels are 19 or 20 inches. Only one electric motor has been announced so far; it is installed on the rear axle and produces a maximum power of 250 kW (340 hp). Acceleration to 100 km/h will take 5.8 seconds. There are no other details yet.
We add that the Hyper GT fastback also debuted with a single electric motor on 250 kW, but later it had a “budget” version with an electric motor with a power of 180 kW (245 hp), and in the future a dual-motor all-wheel drive version was also promised. Prices for Hyper GT in China range from 219,900 to 339,900 yuan (from 3.0 million to 4.65 million rubles translated at the current exchange rate), which approximately corresponds to the price level for the Tesla Model 3 sedan in China, and Hyper HT will probably be a little more expensive – at the level of the Tesla Model Y crossover, prices for which now in China start at 259,900 yuan (3.56 million rubles).
