The manufacturer considered that it was unprofitable to offer the corresponding modifications on the American market, since the demand for them was quite modest.
< p>The American manufacturer Ford has been producing its Explorer crossover since 1990; over the past time, the model has managed to change generations several times. The current sixth generation SUV was presented at the beginning of 2019. The Explorer's closest relative is the Lincoln Aviator (a premium brand owned by Ford), which entered the US market in 2019. Production of both models is established at the company's plant in Chicago.

According to Car and Driver, the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator may lose their hybrid versions when updated for the 2024 model year. As a Ford representative told the publication, the corresponding modification in the Explorer line is not in sufficient demand, which means it is not profitable for the company to produce it. Probably for the same reason, Lincoln thought about removing the hybrid Aviator from the range, but there is no confirmation of this from a representative of the premium brand.
Let us remind you that the Ford Explorer of the current model year has a hybrid modification, the installation of which is based on a 3.3-liter V6 gasoline engine working in tandem with an electric motor. The total output of this system is 322 hp, and the maximum torque is 436 Nm. It is known that this version of the Ford Explorer is the second in power and the leader in efficiency (consumption — 8.7 liters per 100 km).

The Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring crossover has a hybrid system based on a gasoline 3.0-liter twin-turbo six, which comes complete with an electric motor. It also includes a battery with a capacity of 13.6 kWh; The SUV's range when driving on electric power alone is 34 km. The total power of the power plant is 501 hp, and the maximum torque is 853 Nm. This version has a consumption of 4.2 liters per 100 km.
It is worth noting that both models will receive a planned update in the 2025 model year, which is usually carried out in the middle of the life cycle. Previously, a prototype of the refreshed Ford Explorer had already been captured by spy photographers. Judging by the pictures, the American crossover will receive a reshaped head optics, a larger radiator grille and different rear lights. By the way, Explorer was updated for the Chinese market in a similar way last year.

It is not yet known what the engine range of the restyled crossovers will be for USA. A Ford representative, for example, noted that the bulk of sales of the current global Explorer are made up of versions with traditional internal combustion engines of 2.3 and 3.0 liters. It is possible that the company will decide to retire the hybrid version forever.
Recall that Ford The Explorer for the American market will later have an all-electric version. This “green” SUV will be larger compared to the “electric crossover” Ford Explorer that the manufacturer offered to Europeans. Let us remind you that this SUV is based on the modular MEB platform (as part of a partnership with Volkswagen). As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, the starting price tag of the new product will not exceed 45 thousand euros.
