The second generation Skoda Enyaq will be the brand's first model on the new SSP platform

It is expected that the “green” crossover of the Czech brand, owned by the Volkswagen concern, will change generation in 2028.

< p>The Skoda brand introduced its first all-electric crossover, called Enyaq, in September 2020. The version with a sloping roof and the name Enyaq Coupe debuted in January 2022. Let us remind you that current models also have “charged” modifications with an increase in the form of the letters RS (in the British market – vRS); By the way, recently “hot” SUVs were brought to the 2024 model year. Now the first information about the second generation Skoda Enyaq has appeared.

The Czech manufacturer is already working on a project for a new generation “green” crossover; British Autocar reports details about it with reference to Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer. According to him, the future Enyaq will be the first model of the brand, which will be based on the new “trolley” SSP (Scalable Systems Platform) developed by the German concern. Note that the current SUV is based on the Volkswagen modular platform MEB and is the closest relative of the VW ID.4.

It is assumed that the SSP platform will subsequently become the main one for most Volkswagen models. According to the plan, by the end of the decade, approximately 80% of the cars of the brands that are part of VW will be based on it. According to the head of Skoda, the second generation Enyaq will debut in 2028, and sales in Europe could start in 2029; Around the same time, according to the plan, an electric successor to the VW Golf, based on the same new “trolley,” should appear. ” />In the photo: interior of the current Skoda Enyaq crossover

Klaus Zellmer also noted that the second generation Skoda Enyaq will continue to be produced at the Czech plant in Mladá Boleslav. So far he has not given details about what changes the future new product will receive. The British publication suggested that there will be few of them, given the success of the current “green” model. Thus, over the past year, old-world Skoda dealers shipped almost 54 thousand copies of Enyaq, and in the first half of this year an increase of 41% was recorded, as a result of which the Czech “electric crossover” was in ninth place among the best-selling electric vehicles in Europe.

The SSP modular platform will allow the manufacturer to introduce some new unified traction battery design that has been developed by the concern's engineers (this will save a significant amount of money). It is expected that charging the battery from 10 to 80% will take only about 12 minutes (while the current Skoda Enyaq takes about 35 minutes).

There is no data yet on what the “filling” of the next Skoda electric crossover will be. As we noted earlier, the current Skoda Enyaq RS and Enyaq Coupe RS crossovers recently entered the 2024 model year and have become more powerful and longer-range. Thus, the total output of the dual-engine system has increased by 41 hp. up to 340 hp They need 5.5 seconds to accelerate from zero to “hundreds”, which is 1 second less than their predecessors.

In addition, the maximum power reserve on one charge according to the passport of the “hot” cross-coupe is now 547 km (when calculated using the WLTP cycle), which is almost 26 km more than the pre-reform version. And the refreshed Enyaq RS with a traditional body has a range of 540 km without recharging, which exceeds the previous figure by 24 km.
