Last summer, BYD, a leader in the Chinese market, launched a new premium brand FangChengBao, its first model was a mid-size 5-seater plug-in hybrid SUV Leopard 5, it went on sale today, shipments of ordered cars to customers will begin this month.
FangChengBao translated from Latinized Chinese into Russian means “leopard formula” or “leopard equation”; in the BYD hierarchy, the new brand is positioned between the luxury brand Yangwang and the premium brand Denza. The basis of the FangChengBao model range will be plug-in hybrid and all-electric SUVs (SUVs and crossovers), but in the future, pickup trucks and some sports models are also promised.
The premiere of the first model – the Leopard 5 SUV – took place in August, and today full sales began. The Leopard 5 is based on the DMO frame platform (stands for Dual Mode Off-Road) with a fully independent spring suspension: front – double wishbone, rear – multi-link.
Overall length of Leopard 5 – 4890 mm, width – 1970 mm, height – 1920 mm, wheelbase – 2800 mm, ground clearance – 220 mm, approach angle – 35 degrees, departure angle – 32 degrees. The top version, the Ultimate Edition, has a height-adjustable suspension that allows you to increase ground clearance to 310 mm and overcome fords up to 790 mm deep. The curb weight of the SUV is 2850 kg, the gross weight is 3265 kg, the permissible towed trailer weight is 2.5 tons. Standard wheels are 18- or 20-inch. Trunk volume is not specified.
The Leopard 5 plug-in hybrid power plant consists of a front-mounted longitudinally mounted 1.5-liter BYD476ZQF gasoline turbo engine (194 hp, 273 Nm), an electromechanical variator and two electric motors: the front one produces 272 hp. and 360 Nm, rear – 388 hp. and 400 Nm. The maximum combined output of the power plant is 505 kW (687 hp) and 760 Nm. Locking is provided for cross-axle differentials.
