The Swedish brand’s production electric car will hit the market in 2025. The total power of its power plant will be 886 hp.
The Polestar brand separated from Volvo (owned by the Chinese holding Geely) in 2017. Now the manufacturer continues preparations to enter the market of the flagship liftback with index 5: it is expected that the commercial version will reach dealers in 2025. Now the company has shown the future Polestar 5, which, along with other new products, was presented as part of the Polestar Day event (held in Los Angeles, California).
It is expected that the Polestar 5 will be able to compete for buyers with the Porsche Taycan. The new product from the Swedish brand was designed in a recognizable corporate style. The flagship liftback received two-story headlights with “L-shaped” running lights (similar headlights to the Polestar 4). The side air ducts are located slightly lower, and the large central air intake is integrated into the lower part of the front bumper.

The model received a panoramic roof, a laconic body kit made of unpainted plastic around the perimeter of the body, “recessed” external door handles, and original wheels. The rear lights are made in the form of a “squared” arch — they run across the entire width of the stern and are complemented by elements of “hatchwork” on the sides. There is a diffuser at the bottom of the rear bumper.
Polestar talked about the development of new StoreDot batteries for electric vehicles: changes in the production of lithium-ion batteries were made possible due to the “introduction of a number of innovations and the synthesis of patented organic and inorganic compounds.” Such batteries received an “ultra-fast” charging function, and the Polestar 5 prototype has already tested it. According to the manufacturer, the “green” liftback was able to charge the traction battery enough for 161 km (100 miles) in five minutes to last for 161 km (100 miles).

Probably, the serial Polestar 5, which will appear on the roads in a couple of years, will also receive such a battery. It is worth noting that the company intends to develop its technology: it is expected that by 2028, up to a power reserve of 100 miles, the battery will need to be charged in just three minutes, and in 2032, the “electric charging” time will be reduced to two minutes.

As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, the liftback will receive its own aluminum platform, which was developed by specialists from the British branch of Polestar. In addition, the body of the “five” consists mainly of aluminum components, fastened using technology tested on Lotus sports cars (by the way, this brand is also owned by Geely). It is known that the serial “green” five-door will be equipped with a dual-engine power plant (one electric motor on each axle), the total output of which will be 884 hp and torque – 900 Nm.

It is worth noting that at a special event in Los Angeles, the manufacturer presented the brand’s full range of developments to date. Thus, on stage were also the conceptual electric roadster, which will form the basis of the Polestar 6, as well as the Polestar Synergy show car, which debuted in September as part of the IAA Mobility exhibition, which was held in Munich.
