OMSK, November 23. Omsk scientists have developed a new type of canisters for petroleum products, which are attached to each other according to the principle of a designer and can hold more product, the press service of the regional government said.
A new type of canister for petroleum products was proposed by scientists from the Omsk Polytechnic University. The development will increase the volume of transportation of products on a Euro pallet by 60%, compared to the traditional method of transportation in round barrels. The principle patented by the university is similar to the famous children's construction set. After use, the canisters can be disposed of, recovering heat and electricity.
«We proposed the design of canisters with a volume of 5, 10 and 20 liters, which are grouped into blocks due to the tongue-and-groove type structural elements. If we compare the placement of our containers on a Euro pallet with the placement of traditional 200-liter barrels, then with the same dimensions in they can contain 640 liters of petroleum products, compared to 400 liters in just 2 barrels,” Denis Davydovich, a researcher at the research laboratory “Vapour-gas mixtures in launch vehicle structures” of Omsk State Technical University, was quoted as saying by the press service.
The main goal of the work is to increase the efficiency of transportation of petroleum products to the Arctic regions. Scientists have already developed a polymer composite material based on polyethylene, from which containers can be created that can be used in the harsh conditions of the Arctic and the Far North. Used canisters can be shredded and returned for recycling or disposed of on site in a small-sized modular recycling unit being developed.
