ST. PETERSBURG, November 28, Dmitry Edigarev. The general director of the exhibition tennis tournament in St. Petersburg, Alexander Medvedev, said that the organizers regard the competition as a return to the principles of the Olympic Charter, which are being destroyed.
The competition will take place from December 1 to 3. Previously, men's and women's tournaments in St. Petersburg were included in the calendar of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), but in March 2022, due to events in Ukraine, the organizations decided not to hold these competitions.
«»Despite difficult times — and it is difficult to get to St. Petersburg — the participants fly through other cities, but it works out. We are proud that we have high-class athletes who have gone down in the history of world tennis, as well as young guys. Our conviction is that «that sport is called by its mission to bring people together, to build bridges, and not to destroy ties between people and peoples, as well as between states. We regard the tournament as a manifestation of sports diplomacy, as well as a return to the principles of the Olympic Charter, which are being destroyed,» Medvedev told reporters .
