Tesla and Elon Musk personally presented the long-awaited production version of the Cybertruck electric pickup truck; the first copies assembled at the Gigafactory in Texas were ceremonially handed over to customers , technical specifications and prices have been announced.
The premiere of the Cybertruck prototype took place in November 2019, then Tesla expected to begin its production at the end of 2021, but the design of the pickup truck turned out to be so revolutionary and technologically complex that the pilot batch was assembled only last summer, and shipments to customers began on November 30. The presentation of the production version of the model, as usual, was led personally by Elon Musk; it was quite short (about 20 minutes), but effective. At the same time, on the Tesla website, the Cybertruck pickup truck has moved to the production models section, its key technical characteristics have now been revealed.
So, the Cybertruck indeed, as promised, has a body made of stainless steel armor and can withstand shots from small arms fire. There is no body paint; all Tesla pickups released from the factory have a natural matte silver color. The overall length of the pickup is 5682 mm, width — 2200 mm, height — 1791 mm. Adaptive air suspension allows you to adjust the ground clearance, its standard value is 305 mm, maximum — 443 mm. The flat bottom provides not only good geometric cross-country ability, but also good aerodynamic characteristics: cx = 0.335.

The presentation showed a video of a pickup truck frontally hitting a wall at a speed of 56 km/h, from which it is clear that the Cybertruck has a crushable energy-absorbing front part of the body, that is, it probably uses softer structural steel, and not armor, as on sidewalls. In a side crash test, the pickup receives virtually no damage. We will soon find out what the overloads will be for passengers in the cabin from the IIHS protocols. The pickup doors have durable frameless glass that is resistant to stone impacts. There are no external door handles, the locks are unlocked using touch buttons on the center pillars.

The chassis of the Tesla Cybertruck is fully controlled, thanks to which its turning radius is smaller than that of the Tesla Model S liftback. The steering wheel is not mechanically connected to the wheels — therefore, there is no need to “wrap” around it at any speed. 20-inch wheels with protective caps are shod with 35-inch all-terrain tires.
The interior is decorated extremely minimalistically, but the equipment is quite rich: a powerful audio system has 15 speakers, including two subwoofers, there are two shelves for smartphones with wireless charging, the only multifunctional screen on the front panel is 18.5-inch, second-row passengers have their own 9.4″ entertainment screen. The roof over the second row passengers is transparent. An LED “chandelier” is provided for the transverse end of the roof, and a durable folding curtain is provided for the body. The useful cargo volume of the body is 3.42 cubic meters, while there is a lockable electrically operated trunk in the front, and a lockable underground in the body. The pickup's payload capacity is 1,134 kg.
Cybertruck will be offered in three versions. The base rear-engine version of Rear-Wheel Drive starts at $60,990, but it will not hit the market until 2025. The rear-wheel drive pickup accelerates to 60 mph (96.56 km/h) in 6.5 seconds, has an EPA range of 402 km per charge, and a towable trailer weight of 3,402 kg. Other characteristics of the Rear-Wheel Drive version have not yet been published. By the way, in 2019, Tesla promised that the basic version of the pickup truck would cost $39,900.
< p>All-wheel drive dual-engine Cybertruck All-Wheel Drive starts at $79,990, it has a power of 600 hp, weighs 2995 kg and can tow a trailer weighing 4990 kg. The twin-engine pickup truck accelerates to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h. The range on one charge is 547 km, with the Range Extender option — 756 km. What the Range Extender option is is not yet clear. The maximum battery charging power is 250 kW.
The three-engine top version of the pickup truck is called Cyberbeast, it costs from 99,990 dollars. The power plant produces 845 hp, accelerates to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, runs the Cyberbeast quarter mile (402 m) in less than 11 seconds, and has a top speed of 209 km/h. The curb weight of the three-engine version is 3107 kg, the permissible towed trailer weight is 4990 kg. Cruising range on one charge — 515 km, with the Range Extender option — 708 km. The full list of options for the Cybertruck has not yet been made public, but it is clear that it will include FSD autopilot and various accessories, such as a bed tent. Nothing was said about the previously announced ability of the Cybertruck to float at the presentation; such a function is not indicated on the Tesla website.
In the period between the premieres of the prototype and the production version of the Cybertruck, Tesla received about two million applications for it, so many who want to get their miracle pickup truck will have to wait a long time of several years. We look forward to hearing reviews from the first happy owners and experts from the American media.
